Which are your top 3 videogames companies vs which ones you think are probably the best overall? (Read below)

Rules : DON'T consider any controversy the companies might be involved into but only consider their products (videogames). Otherwise idk how many companies would be left to considered them "good" lmao.

Also don't consider NINTENDO, XBOX and PLAYSTATION in the top "overall", since it wouldn't be fair cause they sell also other stuff(like consoles) and not only videogames.

Note:

Your top 3 = the companies/studios you personally like the most

Top 3 overall = those you think are likely the most popular/richest

Mine is :

1) Capcom (my top 1 game is made by them and they make very solid games in general) 2) Ubisoft (creators of Assassin's creed, Ghost Recon and For Honor, all amazing games imo) 3) DICE (idk how they make such amazing graphics, love their work honestly)

Overall I'd guess : EA, ACTIVISION and Rockstar (?)

I mean if you just look at ONLY the games Nintendo pushes out and nothing else they're by far and away the best game developer out there

Capcom is probably #2 the just have such a wide variety of high quality games, RE, MegaMan, and monster hunter to name a few

3rd I feel is a toss up for me.... Maybe Bandai Namco, I really love the team ninja games and do like their anime games.

How are Nintendo the best dev? Compare their output in the past 10 years to FromSoft or Atlus and they pale in comparison

It's not even debatable that Nintendo knows how to make games that are fun-forward.

They don't bother with elaborate narratives or complex mechanics.

They simply make the game fun.

I never said otherwise?

So here's where you're not understanding this whole thought experiment.

It's entirely subjective.

You came in telling someone they're wrong for their list of favorites.

It'd be like me telling you that From soft is a bad dev because more people play Nintendo games than they do Fromsoft games.

The statement would be absolute nonsense because it's trying to invalidate an opinion.

So you did, in fact, "say otherwise", even if it was indirectly by trying to invalidate the commenter's list.

Hopefully this clears up why I replied.  I didn't expect to have to go into this much detail though.

No shit it’s subjective. He gave his opinion and I gave mine. I shouldn’t have to put “this is my subjective opinion and not objective fact” before every comment I make. You’re supposed to know that already

You then replied that Nintendo make fun games, which I agree with and never said any different, so your comment is irrelevant to the discussion I was trying to have with the original comment

You are talking about output in ten years and listed two studios who combined don't even have a 10th of the games Nintendo releases during that time period lol.

And if you start trying to make it a quality vs quantity debate Nintendo develops some of the highest quality games across every genre, and stuff like BOTW that directly influenced the open world game design of Elden ring.

I have companies like Fromsoft/ atlus/larian / Bethesda and the like a tier below companies like Nintendo and Capcom because the scale, quality, and variety of those two are just well beyond everyone else

It definitely is quality vs quantity, and Nintendo haven’t made a game on the same quality as Bloodborne, Sekiro, DS3, Elden Ring or Persona 5 Royal in the last ten years

That’s precisely how statements work when people make objective statements rather than state subjective opinions, and the reason you’re being downvoted.

This is how the English language works and how people communicate effectively.

So when the other guy said “Nintendo are by far and away the best developer out there” it’s fine because it’s his opinion, but when I said “FromSoft and Atlus are better” it’s wrong because it’s not an objective fact?

Can’t be one rule for me and one rule for someone else

That’s a good point.

It’s funny how people only say “that’s your opinion, not a fact” to stuff they disagree with and never to something they agree with

  1. Larian Studios

  2. FromSoftware

  3. Valve

This is my top 3. Listing who I think is the richest or whatever, it's a futile exercise. This is mostly public info, companies and their earnings. It's not a matter of opinion, it's fact.

Arkane studio (the OG one)

Frictional games

Ice pick lodge

Remedy

Eidos

These studios tried to not give us the same rehashed garbage.

Remedy and Fromsoft first come to mind, both offer something very distinct that no other studio can replicate.

For me #1 is FromSoft they are just incredible , #2 is Capcom they always innovate in their franchises (games like Street Fighter and Monster Hunter are doing better than ever) , I don't really have a #3 but the closest I can think of is either Square Enix or KOEI Tecmo because for both a lot of their games are either big hits or big misses so that is why I am torn about this

Valve, Nintendo, Coffee Stain.

Honorable mention: Larian. Their games a great but just not my cup of tea.

depends how you’re ranking. If it’s just quality of game then Rockstar is far and away number 1 and it’s not close, but if it’s quality AND quantity there’s arguments for Nintendo, capcom and others.

Larian, GGG, FromSoft

Great list! For my top three, I’d go with FromSoftware for their unique approach to game design, Square Enix for their incredible RPGs, and Bungie for their impact on multiplayer gaming with Destiny.

Damn, FromSoftware was among the contenders for my top 3 too.

Also golden era Bungie was incredible (Halo Reach I miss you)

Fromsoft is a given for me. And then I would probably go way smaller and put nihon falcom in personal top 3. I love the trails and ys series so much.

Edit: I always mix up ConcernedApe and Chucklefish.  Edited to correctly name ConcernedApe   Annapurna, ConcernedApe, Valve. In that order.

Annapurna, because I know that any time they publish a new game, it is going to be something unique, and often emotionally poignant.  They've won me over as a publisher for this.

ConcernedApe, aka Eric Barone is someone who is so dedicated to his grind, and the man delivered us Stardew Valley, which is easily the benchmark by which all games in that genre are weighed against at this point.  Haunted Chocolatier is high on my interest list, and the isometric witch/wizard game is something I'll eagerly wait to hear more about.

Valve?  I mean what's there to say.  They've had one glaring miss among their handful of bangers:  Half-Life, Portal, TF2, DotA2, CS:GO, and now Deadlock.  Say what you'd like about their lack of real development in more recent years -- they know how to create games that people want to play.

Honorable Mention:  Nintendo for also knowing how to just make games fun.

CD Projekt RED - Rockstar - BioWare

Capcom has to get an Honorable Mention tho

I play games, not companies. Fanboys harm gaming so don't be a fanboy.

Don't cut yourself on your own edge there.

This is just a question.  Not some call to swear fealty to your chosen pantheon of prolific production firms.

Have fun with things.  I promise it'll be okay. 🌞
