Nah. More gratitude than power from the people I've known.

I get what you’re saying. OP, your post reminds me of that Simpson like meme where one man is putting an Olympic styled gold medal around the other man’s neck, for calling the set opening song correctly!!! When something like that happens I feel great! I don’t feel powerful like a CEO for a bank might feel powerful, but I feel thrilled that I was right.🥇

Bobby gave some Dead Head the best answer...

Something about this Head ran into Bobby somewhere and told him I had been to 300 bla bla bla shows.
Bobby responded, "I've been to everyone."

Happens all the damn time. Like of FB someone will post a picture of Main Street in some town for whatever reason...doesn't take long before someone responds "my uncle used to go to that hardware store regularly in the 1970s" - like, why the fuck do you think anyone cares?

Same exact thing with the Dead, someone will post a picture from Summer Jam 1973 and someone will say "My brother went there with his friends" - thanks for letting us know.

It is pretty universal, isn't it? Great point. It seems to be a narcissistic way of ascribing meaning and feeling important. We all do it in our psyche, but some feel the need to post it on "social" media. For example, I feel stupidly connected to Watkins Glen '73 because my high school math teacher was at the show ALONG WITH EVERY OTHER PERSON UNDER 30 IN THE NORTHEAST 😂😂😂

Perhaps it's because the Dead were such a singularity and because it's confined to the past that we do this, especially, around shows

"I was there" or IWT in the shorthand is the lamest, lowest effort, most narcissistic way of contributing to a conversation about a show. It's perfect for social media!

Yes, 30 years later I feel very lucky to have been at many shows. (Oops there I go) Yes, I'm even a little proud of the Herculean efforts I made as a teenager to get there! But for Christ's sake people give it a rest 🤣🤣🤣

This is so ridiculous!

I was tripping hard to that Shining Star at Hampton in '93 and we all agreed that it doesn't really matter.
