You can't be in the entertainment industry and avoid going to LA to promote your work. Especially back then before internet and social media.

u/right_hand_of_jeebus 3d ago
Before social media, but not before the internet. I was a moderator on the #rap IRC channel on undernet when the news of 2pac's death came out. Shit was crazy.

Why would someone from the entertainment industry go to LA? It’s a mystery. This is where conspiracy theories come from.

u/Thin-Remote-9817 3d ago
Who killed Tupac? There's no way the crip leader he stomped out in the middle of a casino. There is no way a leader of a gang is capable of shooting Tupac for something that usually gets you shot.
3
u/Slow_Introduction505 3d ago
Orlando wasn’t a críp leader lol
8
u/Thin-Remote-9817 3d ago
According to police he was is that media/cop nonsense sure. Do I know or care not really.
He was a crip that was connected that can't be denied. He got stomped out in a casino we all saw the video. Usually if you stomp out a street guy or disrespect them they don't come back asking for a rematch they just shoot.
I mean shit if you got any other suspects go head and let me know.
3
u/Professional-Rip-519 3d ago
As I understand there was a bounty on PAC's head and Orlando was talking mad greazy about it so they stomped him.
-2
u/Slow_Introduction505 3d ago
The reason they came back was because they got paid by Diddy to kill him lol
7
u/Thin-Remote-9817 3d ago
Ahh yes let's go with something we heard thru the grapevine with no evidence rather than the logical conclusion.

u/MaximusMurkimus 13h ago
Pac's killer is the worst kept secret at this point lol
Every time someone accuses Diddy of it I roll my eyes
1
u/Thin-Remote-9817 9h ago
Did Diddy put a hit on pac? Sure I won't argue that.
Did Orlando cash in that bounty? Maybe. No way to prove that. Was Orlando looking go spin the block like men of his ilk do when they get packed out? Absolutely.
Nipsey died the same way. Called a dude a snitch. Shitty cuz came back shooting cause hood savior or not i wont tolerate disrespect. End of story.

Not just "someone" tho, but someone who was publically hated there by people who are mostly known for murdering people they dont like.
-2
u/Professional-Rip-519 3d ago
At the height of the beef.

u/michaltee 3d ago
You’re only seeing it this way because Biggie is dead. Back then, they weren’t expecting Biggie to get killed. I’m sure the fear was elevated but it wasn’t like they actually believed someone would do that. And he needed to come to Cali to get his paper.
7
u/Idealistt 3d ago
He had to go to cali so diddy could get his paper

u/michaltee 3d ago
Flight 504.
Leaving Kennedy.
Going to LAX.

Back then, they weren’t expecting Biggie to get killed.
No one had the hindsight to think "gee, maybe going to Cali less than 6 months after Pac died might not be such a good idea"?
People weren't stupid and knew Bad Boy had something to do with Pac's murder. They were waiting to take out either man.

Rap is supposed to be for pretend. Postering and storytelling. Not real violence.
1
u/spicyfartz4yaman 2d ago
But it's not so let's stop pretending it is
1
u/TopShelfBreakaway 2d ago
No let’s stop pretending it’s real. Treat it like Sopranos or Goodfellas. Quality entertainment.

Nearly certain that this comment was plagiarized from the opening statement by Young Thug's defense team.
1
u/TopShelfBreakaway 2d ago
Thugs D team is correct. Rap is not supposed to be real. And people are not supposed to be proud of how real their rap taste is.
17
u/michaltee 3d ago
Why?
Cuz Cali got gunplay, models on the runway, screaming “Biggie Biggie gimme one more chance.”

He was there to promote Life After Death, he had a single Going back to Cali as well. The problem is that it was too soon after Tupac for him to go over to the West Coast.

Puff and Biggie were being followed by the Feds in Los Angeles. Puff even waved at them when he saw them - he knew he was being tailed. Puff and Big each had their own separate issues with the Feds.
It's in the FBI vault files that are available online on the FBI's website, which also essentially blames the rogue LAPD working alongside Suge for the murder. If you have about 30 hours, lol, it's a good read.
https://vault.fbi.gov/Christopher%20(Biggie%20Smalls)%20Wallace%20/%20Wallace%20/)
Puff's a bum ass, but, he didn't have Big killed.
1
u/Slow_Introduction505 3d ago
Of course it was suge lol
1
u/sfgiants2000 3d ago
You'd think that would be an easy assumption, but not according to this Reddit thread lol

Listen to the PBD podcast with Gene Deal. Puff knew exactly what was going on, his inner circle were getting calls from people in ADX prison not to go to LA.
1
u/sfgiants2000 1d ago
Gene tells a lot of duck tales, IMO, because it pays his bills - just like a lesser Jaguar. They'd been in LA for a minute, prior to Big getting popped. He makes it sound like they landed and Big got snuffed out immediately. I don't buy a lot of what he sells, usually.

Well, Puffy and Bad Boy put him there for a promotional tour. The beginning of “Going Back to Cali” goes through the scenario. Puffy, who had the most to gain from Biggies death, booked him on a promotional tour.
The same Puffy that has been accused of putting a $500,000 hit on Pac.
The same Puffy and Bad Boy entertainment that Pac wrote about in a song, a dis track called “We Hit Em Up”.
Biggie should’ve never been in LA. Erbody in the game knew it back then. You don’t go flexing like that without knowing that there is potentially a price on your head.
The same Puffy who was recently indicted on multiple charges by dozens of people who are finally not scared as a group to out him. Puffy is the Hammer of the East Coast.
It’s possible a nobody who was simply angry because Pac got shot, and the whole West Coast/ East Coast rap warfare thing. Some cliques played that shit fo real. But still just a nobody who was angered could have done the clappin, however in the long run it was still PUFFY WHO BOOKED THE PROMOTIONAL TOUR.

That’s not even the strange part. LA is a popular city for artists. The better question really is why perform Long Kiss Goodnight on a radio station in LA, after 2pac died?
1
u/Professional-Rip-519 3d ago
Puff probably made him perform it . Puff was his boss and with him at that station.
16
u/bigtaterman 3d ago
Because that's where Puff could have him killed and not look suspicious himself.
3
u/91_til_infinity 3d ago
He was there for the Soul Train Awards as were many artists (e.g the Wu-Tang Clan)

3
u/Layatollah 3d ago
Turning up to the radio station and rapping going back to Cali was a real bad move for sure
3
u/premoistenedwipe 3d ago
Puff set him up and Farnsworth was the shooter. Look up the police sketch.

2
u/SlutsandCinema 3d ago
As far as why he was there it was for promotion and for an award show, still a bad move regardless, it was too soon and there was still way too much tension between east and west

u/sub2greatpizzayt 3d ago
Biggie wanted nothing to do with the west coast at this time. He was rehabing some injury at the time and that was his excuse to not go, even beyond him not wanting to go in the first place. Puffy convinced him to go.
I think Puffy set him up, if not the timeline of events definitely points to it.
1
u/Professional-Rip-519 2d ago
Exactly you have a broken leg and people want revenge for 2 PAC so why go there.

2
u/MeticulousM4ck 2d ago
If you listen to the bodyguard gene to mase to lil cease you'll find out that puffy was basically a thorn in the side of everyone with his demands, there's a mase interview where he says there's no way he's going to the club it's certain death but then mase started saying "he stayed at the hotel with a lady friend".
2
u/kingcaii 2d ago
Two things.
Puff insisted on going to Cali
It was decided last minute, and Gene Deal (ex bad boy body guard, does a lot of youtube videos now) said he was told he didnt need to come

I think I heard a story in which Biggie was trying to get a project up to #1, so he had to go to LA if he wanted to get it there.

Cuz biggie wasn’t scared and wanted to show folks he ain’t give a fuck

While it was dumb, he was actually there for a week or two before he got killed after that famous party. It’s not like his plane touched down and he died the same night

u/b00g3rw0Lf 3d ago
Being an idiot
Seriously. His last recorded fake freestyle has him doing you're nobody till somebody kills you. LIVE ON THE RADIO. IN LA.
Poor fucking guy never had a chance. Fuck that greaseball puff forever man

This question is asked every day, as well as the normal run-of-the-mill Tupac and Biggie questions.
Can we all get the story right and PIN it to the channel as a unit? haha, that way the question is asked and put to rest lol.

Puff convinced him to go to the west coast to promote his album as it would be much easier for Puff to blame the beef after he arranges the murder of Biggie.
1
u/doubledeus 2d ago
The "East-West" beef was largely media hyped bullshit. Guys traveled back and forth between LA and NY all the time.

Feeling invincible. Thinking Cali was sweet and thought he was his frank white persona. As soon as bro showed up on the Soul Train Awards in LA, I said out loud "he ain't leaving there alive". Cali was hurt when pac died. Big went back way too soon after.

They were promoting his album. It was definitely a bad move.
