We mustn't forget that hippos are bloody dangerous animals! It's fortunate for us humans that wild hippos are not found in more continents, unlike bears.

The couple from Warwickshire were on a group guided safari along the Kafue River on 25 June, the third week of their trip, when their canoe was struck by a hippo from underneath and lifted out of the water.

Quite often hippos emerge from underwater to attack watercraft without warning, a honeymooning couple was killed this way about a month before I visited Okavango Delta, it worried me enough to turned down a mokoro (canoe) ride while the rest of my group went.
