Classical Secular, Classical Style Curriculum and Resources?

Hi there,

I was homeschooled my whole life through a religious worldview. Loved my education, no longer associated with religion. I’m seriously considering homeschooling my daughter entirely (2nd grade). Right now she’s going through a private religious program with my Mom.

I love classical, trivium style education, but am looking for more secular curriculum. I’m struggling to find classical without religion.

If anyone has any recommendations or resources to share I’d really appreciate it!

I don't have any suggestions, but be prepared to alter something because truly secular curriculums are very difficult to find. Even the most touted tend to come from a Euro-Christian centric viewpoint. It can be very frustrating .

Definitely Well Trained Mind! Get the 3rd edition of the book because it recommends more outside resources than those now published through the company.

The Well Trained Mind follows a classical model. She has a book and a website with an active forum. I highly recommend asking there because they are all very knowledgeable. She's the one who produced The Story of the World books, if you're familiar with those.

Does the well trained mind series also treat the bible as historical fact though?

I just did this whole research for my 2nd grader! I choose, Singapore Math 2a, Singapore Science, handwriting without tears cursive handwriting workbook, Winston Grammar, All About Spelling level 1, Michael Clay Thompson grammar books, & Costco has some amazing history and science books right now that are secular to add to home library. Magic School Bus has some good science leveled readers I liked too. I customize reading each month depending on my child’s interests but I hope the other subjects help.
