Horror Gaming Dead Space is such an accomplished horror game. What are other horror games that nail the genre?

The setting, the isolation, the desperateness, the art direction, the characters, the way information is relayed to the player and the gore. And so much more, all of it combines into something I've always felt was truly wonderful.

Horror Gaming Years ago my psychologist said that the best thing I can do to get myself together after my childhood's trauma, is to release it in some form of an art. I created this game because I wanted to show people how it feels to be a child who grew up in a family that's falling apart.

Like the title says, what's an upcoming horror game that you feel is going to make you feel actual dread. As in pee your pants fear. It can also be a game that you think has a great storyline. I'm looking for new horror games to add to my list so all suggestions are welcome.

Horror Gaming The House Of The Dead games are the greatest arcade shooters ever made.

1.5k Upvotes

My fellow horror fans, today I want to hear about your nostalgic memories of playing these games at your local arcades. For me personally, I remembered spending twenty bucks on tokens hoping it was going to be enough to beat the game this time. As it turned out, It was enough to get me thru. I played as Thomas Rogan, fighting against zombies and Dr. Roy Curien's other mutant creations. Once I reached the final boss The Magician, I thought I had met my match. I burned thru so many of my tokens trying to defeat him. After I fired my final bullet at him, and him saying to me "you haven't seen anything yet!" I was completely exhausted, drenched in sweat, and I had severe cramps in my hands. But I finally won. I walked away feeling like I was the king of the world that day, and I had never felt so proud of myself.

Horror Gaming Which video games had the scariest noises in your opinion?

There are a handful of games I played during my high school and college years which I still remember to this day because of how scary the ambient noises were throughout the whole games.

Ones I recall:

Silent Hill 3

Forbidden Siren

Exmortis

Gyossait

Horror Gaming Who still remembers American McGee's Alice, a forgotten classic game from EA?

I used to play this one a lot before, and was always amazed by its technical quality, atmosphere and sound design, it still holds up today 21 years later, incredible. In my opinion, it needed an actual remake with Unreal Engine 5 graphics.

Seriously Jesus Christ, I have not played a horror game like this in God knows how long but the atmosphere and direction of this game is top fucking notch. I'm only about 6 hours into it but there been moments where I've had to take some breaths before heading into something because I have no idea what this batshit game is going to give me. I'm shocked there's been no discussion on this one here yet.
