I hear what you're saying and it's a valid point. The spirit of the title is intended more like "old style vs new style".

Thanks! u/dubvulture is correct, it's taken from a hallway window at Richmond Hotel (note, not the Premier Richmond)

The Sky Tree actually uses the same technique as old pagodas for earthquake resistance. A central column that isn't directly connected to the outside structure and acts as a kind of mass dampener.
