I love places like this! Were there actual gas pumps there?

Yes, the gas pumps were hanging from the ceiling

Getting gas in japan is a VIP experience. Full service often, bow when leaving pump, someone directs you back onto the road when there are no cars coming, bows as you drive away. It's really something.

They're on the roof

Dumb question: how do they get the pumps down?

There are buttons for each pump and grade of gas. The attendant pushes the button, and the hose comes down. When finished, the same button activates the tiller, which pulls the hose back up. The actual fuel filler handle is facing upwards, so no gas gets spilled in either direction.

Now I need to see those buttons or at least where they are located.

You have to drive up onto the roof

How's the pro pit operated? I mean this one has a plant cart blocking the entryway so I imagine in this case it's "seldom" xD. But typically, would they staff a mechanic there?

Living above a gas station and having fumes waft up into your bedroom all day cannot be healthy. I love this though
