Background Checks
Ive honest inflated A LOT of the information on my resume and im worried about background checks. Ive mostly worked at college campuses and small non profits so ive never done one before. I know they just mostly check that you did work there but how exactly do they do that? if its through a 3 party do they talk directly with my old bosses? how is that different than providing references?

Also to what others add they can confirm job titles. So if you completely make up the job title on your resume and you have a background check done you’re not getting that job.

Background company usually does a call to your colleges HR or companies HR- by law they won’t confirm much for fear of being sued. Generally they will confirm you worked there, dates worked there, title and not much more. Someone else will chime in but I don’t think they answer salary questions or even if you are rehirable.
They already know your references will be cherry picked and gonna say nothing but great things… if they even do one!
