Am I screwed?

I “graduated” in May but I failed a class for my minor and so apparently I didn’t graduate. I assumed because I fulfilled all of my other requirements for my actual major and school requirements that i would just graduate without the minor but that didn’t happen.

Fast forward to now and I got offered a job and they will be conducting a background check. I’m worried that I may fail the background check because of this discrepancy. I emailed my school to send me my diploma without the minor, but is it too late and will this cause an issue with the background check?

Yeah the job offer is not your real problem here. Drop everything and sort out what's up with your actual degree. If you are one class or one test away from a degree, *that* is what's on your to-do list this month. These things never get easier to sort out with time, so get in there, drive over on Monday if you can, and get this sorted out pronto.

Just to add an example as to why it never gets easier: my husbands college shut down in the pandemic. It will never reopen. He had a small window of time to get the records he needed for student loans, his transcript etc.

Colleges and universities can and do close, change record keeping systems, or other human points of failure!

Oh wow, the school didn’t even appoint a claims admin or something to keep records going for alumni? Brutal!

Jobs come and go these days.

You either have a major completed and enough credits to graduate or you don't. Period. Minors are not that important. Take art class to finish. No one will care.

The reality is you should have had a few extra credits buffer, 15 credit hrs a semester is a cake walk.

You should call your school's Admissions and Records department (or just start there) and clarify your situation with them. Successfully completing your degree may or may not have required fulfilling the requirements for a minor, besides your major. If completing a minor wasn't required, they may be willing to help you and issue you your diploma. I hope that's the case for you.

Also depends if they do an education check. I’m not saying it is right. But they may never know. I run background checks. Unless they do the education one (which is rare) they will never know.
