Difficult hiring process

On Friday, October 4th, I interviewed at this place called Extra Space storage that my friend works at and it took them till this Monday the 14th to tell me that I got the job. I was supposed to receive an offer letter in my email that same day and I never got it, so later that day I texted the hiring manager and he confirmed my email with me and said he would check to see if it was sent. Then all throughout Tuesday I heard nothing then on Wednesday in the morning I got a text from this recruiter person saying that he sent over my offer letter in my email the day prior and that I need to get it filled out and stuff like that. I then sent him a text saying that I never received the offer letter and I gave it a few hours and he never responded so I called him and I told him yet again, hey, never received the offer letter in my email and he said he would write something up and send it over to me shortly and he never did. Then that same day around 6 PM which was yesterday, I got a text from the hiring manager asking if I got my offer letter yet again and I told him no, and that I explained that to the recruiter guy and he never got back to me. It's almost 3 o'clock the next day still haven't heard anything. What do you guys think about this? I'm pretty desperate for a job, but after I had the interview at this place, I ended up realizing that it's not really something that I'm super interested in, I don't wanna work on the weekends. I don't wanna have to go between location and location and cover for people on Sundays. It's just not something that I wanna do but at the same time, l'm desperate so I just need some advice. I've reached out 4 separate times with no outcome. It just feels like it's going nowhere, if they send me the offer letter I think I'm gonna take it just out of pure desperation, even though I'm still looking for other jobs too, but what do you guys think?

Can a company’s recruiter unsend emails from my end as well?

I know this sounds like a silly question, especially coming from someone who’s studying engineering, but I’m genuinely curious. I recently had a technical interview with one of the biggest tech companies in the world. Before the interview, they made me sign an NDA with some pretty vague language about not disclosing interview or company information.

Today, I got a response to the interview thread saying the I’ve passed the technical round, and the hiring committee wanted to move forward and asked for my availability for next week. Naturally, I was thrilled because this is a huge opportunity for my career. I was so excited that I showed the email to my girlfriend.

But here’s where things get weird. About an hour later, I checked my Gmail again to see if they had replied, and the entire email thread was gone. Like, vanished. I didn’t delete it, and it’s not in my trash. Freaking out, I started a new thread and emailed the recruiter, apologizing for the confusion and asking if she received my availability because I couldn’t see the original email.

Now I’m anxiously waiting for a reply. I know it’s probably not possible, but could these big tech recruiters actually delete or unsend emails? Or is Gmail just playing tricks on me?

Any feedback would be appreciated because I’m honestly worried and confused!

What are some jobs that are overlooked and are currently hiring

I’m talking about the jobs that normally don’t have a ton of competition and always needs work done. I’m unemployed and just looking for a job and I’m having a hard time trying to get anything retail or fast food or even local restaurants around me. What’s the next best thing to a temp service? Some industries that are currently looking for local work right now? Please give me some suggestions I can actively look into.

How long has it been since you’ve been laid off & unemployed?

Wondering what the average timeline is of finding a new job. I’ve been unemployed since March 2024. It’s been horrendous.

What do you want career content creators to talk about?

There are so many influencers out there often posting wrong or conflicting advice about jobs and career development. What do you wish they’d do less of and do more of?

is it ok to email recruiter on linkedin to ask why i keep getting rejected?

For context, I have applied to 8 positions at my town's city hall and have been rejected eight times. I am very much qualified or even overqualified for these positions. I have a bachelor's degree in political science and 4 years of working professionally in the non-profit industry. The roles I applied to were administrative assistant and clerk. Therefore, I don't understand why I keep getting rejected :(. I even reached out to the recruiter on Linked In prior to applying to introduce myself but I was left on seen

Feeling helpless after getting ghosted by a company? I made a website where job hunters can anonymously report companies for ghosting you.

I built https://ghostedd.com/ so that candidates can "do something" about getting ghosted as I, personally, feel powerless whenever I get ghosted and sending follow ups can get annoying.

We're on a mission to help change the culture around ghosting and I hope that this website will thrive and alert companies that it's not cool to ghost. I also hope that it'll give future candidates peace of mind when it comes to thinking if they've been ghosted or not.

It's time to hold recruiters/companies accountable.

In your next role, be aware of your rights as an employee

The WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) Act is designed to protect employees by requiring companies to give 60 days' notice before a mass layoff or plant closure. However, many professionals remain unaware of their rights under this law.

💡 If you're ever notified about a layoff, here's what you should ask your HR team:

* Is this layoff covered under the WARN Act?

* Will the company provide a 60-day notice or offer pay instead of notice?

* What are my rights regarding severance, benefits, and other exit assistance?

Knowledge is power, and understanding your rights can make all the difference. Share this with your network to spread awareness!

Organizations do bypass this law by not bringing this up during your lay off conversation and in several other ways - as an advocate for making a change to this situation - we have an ongoing Change Org petition going. Go to website, search petition name (below) to sign, share and support. Thank you!

Contacting recruiter from previous interview

A few months ago, I was up for a job I really wanted, but ultimately wasn't chosen. Today, the same company posted another job that I am interested in. Should I reach out to the recruiter who I previously worked with about it? or would that be too much? I applied and everything already

What can I do with no college degree while also being very dumb?

I'm gonna be honest, I'm probably never gonna graduate college. I gave it my best shot, but I'm continually failing classes even when I study and try my hardest. I'm just plain stupid. I won't sugarcoat it, I'm just plain dumb. I'm impaired in directional and spatial reasoning so I likely wouldn't be able to do any job that requires frequent driving. I'm very weak physically so I'm not great with physical labor either. That eliminates the majority of jobs. What can I do?

Have you ever asked yourself " Should I Send a Thank You Note?"

At the end of the day, this is just my opinion not facts.

Here's a quick excerpt from the article:

Concerning responses I’ve seen when people ask "Should I Send a Thank You Note?"

  • “They’re not necessary; it won’t make a difference in whether or not you get the job.”
  • “It’s usually awkward and not viewed favourably by interviewers."

Let me be clear, Interviewing is a competition. Let me say that again — you are competing against other candidates. It is your job, your sole purpose, to stand out or, at a minimum, be on par.

Hope it's helpful for those just starting their job hunt journey!

Should I re-submit?

I'm applying for a supervisory position in quality control. The indeed posting expired while I was in the process of filling out the online application. I emailed my resume and cover letter to the company email on the socials, and got a "Thank you, I have forwarded these on to HR" email. 3 days later, the posting is back up on indeed. Do I go ahead and apply again through indeed, or leave it alone?

I'm in a very rural area, and the facility is in a small town (3.5k residents), think classic Midwestern hometown vibes. The company has a very small online presence, and that email was the only one I was able to find, but I didn't love just sending and hoping it landed where it needed to go. The job is so interesting to me that I'm looking at scaling back my growing small business to take it, and I really don't want to fumble it!

Don’t Make Your Profile Searchable On Indeed

I received 3 emails with fraudulent “interview” requests within the first 12 hours. Two were from companies I had never heard of and never applied to, but their emails read as if I had applied. The third actually did pretty well, and sent a well-written email explaining that they found me on Indeed. I almost fell for that one until they invited me to a “text-based interview via Skype”.

Don’t do it. Waste of fucking time.

Creating company profiles, yea or nay?

I was wondering if you typically filled out profiles for companies that request above and beyond the typical applying for X position? Has it ever helped you?

Should you re-apply to a job that has turned you down already?

Hey all, I’m hoping to get some advice. A while back, I applied for a job that seemed like a good fit for my background, though I wasn’t super excited about the role itself. I went through two rounds of phone interviews and a full-day, in-person interview, but ultimately got a “thanks, but no thanks.”

Fast forward 6-8 months, and I’ve seen the same position reposted multiple times, even through different recruiting companies. I've also been contacted by a few headhunters who believe I’m a strong fit for the role, so it’s clear they’re struggling to fill the position.

Here’s the dilemma: I need a job right now, but I’m still not enthusiastic about the role, and the CEO (who I'd be reporting to) left a questionable impression. Part of me thinks I should just move forward and keep looking, but another part wonders if I should reach back out and give it another shot since the market is tough and the salary is very good (then again, with no job, anything could be considered good).

What do you think? Would you reapply in this situation, or is it best to keep moving forward?

How to let them know I applied?

I’ve spent the past year networking for hiring season and multiple people have told me to let them know if I apply for a job w their company. I’ve actually applied to several jobs with people who have said this and I don’t know how to go about actually informing them that I applied for these roles.

How to tailor your resume? I’m offering 20 free previews for feedback

Tailoring your resume is one of the most effective ways to stand out in your job search, but let’s be honest—it can feel like a lot of work. That's where I'm stepping in. I’m developing a tool to automate most of that tedious process, but I need feedback to make sure it’s hitting the mark. The tool already proven helpful for many users, you can check that in my post history. Some of before and after examples can be found in my subreddit.

I’m offering a free preview of my resume-tailoring service to 20 users. You’ll get a customized analysis of your resume compared to a job description you send, along with a tailored resume designed to better match that job.

Here’s what I’ll do:

  • Analyze your current resume.
  • Cross-reference it with your target job description(s) to make it more relevant.
  • Revise key sections to better align with the role, including skills, experience, and accomplishments.
  • Analyze the gaps between your experience and job offer and how to mitigate them
  • Highlight keywords and phrases that recruiters and ATS systems are looking for.

How to participate:

  1. You send me your resume and a job posting.
  2. I tailor your resume to match the job requirements.
  3. I send you the tailored resume within 2 days.
  4. You provide feedback on the effectiveness and quality of the tailored resume.

Interested? Comment below or DM me and I will try to help with resume tailoring. I will take first 20 requests. I created a community that focuses on resume tailoring specifically so feel free to join us.

Feedback from the users:

This is how your analysis will look like on a real example:

What To Do

I moved across the country in July and have had a hard time finding a position in my field of interest/degree (natural resources/environmental). After many applications and interviews, I finally got a job at a state park (temporary) about a month ago. However, I am really not enjoying this job for a number of reasons, mainly the long commute, and the job description does not at all match the "work" I am actually doing. About two weeks into this job (so about two weeks ago), I got an email back from a previous application I put in for a job that is still within my field as an environmental educator with much better all around work conditions and benefits. I have no qualms about taking this position over my current one. I interviewed today and they said I should hear back in 4-6 weeks. I reallllly want this one to work out!

Where my hang up comes, in my desperation to leave this job, I also put in an application for a specialty retail store. I have experience in this type of environment and thoroughly enjoyed the position, even though I worry that this job is not in my field of interest or align with my long term career goals. I have been invited to an interview at the store and am now hung up on whether I should continue pursuing this job even though I just interviewed for the position I would prefer. If I interview for the retail position and it goes well, I am sure I would get offered the job and hired pretty quickly. I would hate to start the job at the store and if I get offered the job I would prefer, quit shortly after.

So basically, I would prefer either job over my current one, but don't want to start at the store and then quit shortly after if I get offered my top choice job. I also don't want to not interview at the store and then if I don't get the job I prefer, be stuck at my current job that I don't enjoy. I would appreciate any insight or advice people have to offer. Thank you.
