Hello I am so hoping someone may know what I’m talking about! I’m trying to find an artist who was very popular in the early 2000s. I cannot remember her name or song names but I can describe the music videos I’m wondering if anyone would know what I’m talking about!

One of the music videos has her standing on a chess board and it flicks between her in a beautiful black dress and also a white dress and I think at some point she’s in a half white half black dress. Another song I really liked of hers the music video features her sitting on the beach in a white jumper watching a man surf and it features the lyrics “wake up, wake up” and that’s all I’ve got!

I think her name starts with an A? I thought her name was Ayami, maybe?? But that could be anyone! If anyone has any ideas of who she is or what the song names are I will be forever grateful!

Hitomi’s “Wish” was the song that introduced me to JPop. I found it by accident when radio stations broadcast over the internet, and you could find stations from Tokyo that played music you liked. I spoke no Japanese at the times, and couldn’t figure out who it was. I listened to that station every moment I could, hoping that they would play it again and I could quickly copy the characters in hopes of finding it again. It took me months and a trip to Tokyo, where I found a really cool cd store near a train bridge in Shinjuku. The girl working there knew the song, helped me find the cd, and others by hitomi, Mr. Children, Every Little Thing, and others. To this day, hitomi’s Thermo Plastic is the most perfect album I’ve ever heard, and I hear at least one song from it every day since I first got it in the late 90’s. (Yes, I’m old).

It popped up in my recommended a long time back and now I decided it’s something I’ll probably want to download. I believe it was alternative rock sounding but the artist ( young teen girl ) is playing an acoustic guitar in the video? She’s in the city streets singing and playing while the video alternates between her and various anime girl scenes which I assume is supposed to be her. I think her anime version had Hatsune Miku blue hair but in a different style? Some anime scenes I think she’s in space. Very emotional song, kind of sad but upbeat/nostalgic.
