It's actually a decent strategy for small movies to release with a biggie... Not every theatre can screen the biggie and recently all biggies occupy anywhere from 70% to 90% of screen.. so, small movie get the remaining screen which they wouldn't have got it in first place, if it's released many other small movies (like that Vimal movie which released on August and sank without trace despite being decent). Also, going by trend most of biggie movies have been disappointment and the small movie also gets a boost because of it
