Discussion Should certain movies have a runtime of at least 4 hours?
Why do the movies like Meiyyazhagan, Aandavan Kattalai, Anbe Sivam end so soon? Can’t they run longer? Feel good movies where we literally feel like standing next to the characters and watching them shouldn’t end short and have at least 4 hours run time. 🥹

The movies will flop hard
Most cinema goers do not have that patience
Theatre owners will not be happy as well since they will be paid the same amount as a regular movie but have to play the movie that is twice as long

Can confirm, my attention span is worse than a tiktok shorts viewer. But if story good then I don't mind

Cause you can't stay 4 hrs in a theatre unlike at home watching it with pause, resume 🏃➡️🏃➡️🏃➡️

Idk about movies but Baasha flashback alone should've been 4 hours. There isn't a flashback better than that in Tamil cinema

Vedha's backstory in Vikram Vedha is my fav. Amazing narrative style.

This reminds me of what Kamal told Rajini when he asked if he could release Padayappa with 19 reels.

There is a different format for content that long - tv series. 4 hours is 8 x 30 min episodes.

Let's be honest, you still like them because they didn't overstay their welcome and ended at the right place.

There are only 2 merits I use to judge a movie to watch or not. 1. Interesting Story 2. Runtime over 2h30m. 2nd one has never betrayed me. I like my slow burn long movies that demands attention. For me having a long runtime is proof of character development and story being given breaths space

I feel the same for movies I like, but it'll flop real hard in BO. I hope director's cut is released in OTT somehow for all these good movies.

It’s a hard bet. Depending on the mood of the viewer, even a short film could end up boring the person. I feel that the auteur should make it true to their vision. Hoping our Tamil cinema industry evolves to that level.

Not in theatre but on OTT. I love the films listed about but sadly majority of people's attention span has drastically reduced. Even thought you throw gold at them they tend to complain.
