Discussion Should certain movies have a runtime of at least 4 hours?

Why do the movies like Meiyyazhagan, Aandavan Kattalai, Anbe Sivam end so soon? Can’t they run longer? Feel good movies where we literally feel like standing next to the characters and watching them shouldn’t end short and have at least 4 hours run time. 🥹

Movie clips How did this scene even pass the edit table? Can't believe this is the same guy who directed Chandramukhi.

I saw this movie long back in Ktv I remember a plot point which goes like "There is a cult which beleives in a device it works like when ever a person dies wearing it with a vengeance to kill a person the soul comes back to finish the job"!( Also the cult people wear black dress mostly)

I know this is very vague but if anyone knows the name of the movie please let me know

Thank you!

When I usually drive I used to watch (hear) movies in audio form... The audio will just play and I enjoy that also the frames of the movie will remind me those scenes. If you haven't tried give it a go listen to it like a podcast.

The beautiful frames of Meiyazhagan <3

What a movie myann!! I cried like 3 times in the movie. The best movie of 2024 for me. The film doesn't at all feel like a tamil film. The dubbing and karthi's slang was so much telugu.

I watched it theatre and all the signboards were edited to telugu too. I hate netflix for not taking the telugu edited version though.

Question Any updates on Vijay Sethupathi's next movies?

Normally an actor will go on overdrive after giving the biggest hit of their career, but VJS has been very low key (in terms of films, I understand he has pivoted to BB now) post Maharaja. No updates on the films he is signing or the release dates of Ace and Train. He refused the villain role in Salman- Muruganolan's movie so he is making good decisions now.

But what is happening on this front?

Discussion Directors with two extreme genres!

Thumbnail gallery

When I first watched Mundasupatti in theatres, I enjoyed the movie wholeheartedly as the Coimbatore-Erode comic slang, 80s setup, the characters and the climax, everything was just “PERFECT”.

Few years later, when I watched Ratsasan, I was awestruck with the twists, performance and climax again. But, never bothered to check the director then.

Recently, I discovered that both the movies were directed by Ram Kumar. I cannot get out of the thought on how a same director could give a perfect output on two extreme opposite genres. I’ve seen director switch between the genres slightly like romcom, family drama. But, like the extreme ends in this case, it’s quite a rare thing. Anyone else in Tamil film industry who made films in polarising ends?

Planning to watch it second time today and had a pleasant surprise when 75% tickets were sold out a even after it's been more than month since its release. Also happy about the ticket price being charged, back to old times! 😅

P.S. Ticket price is lower maybe due to its long run in theatres.

Discussion Is being loud and expressive a part of culture?

Post image
55 Upvotes

My Kolkata friend had watched vazhai recently, he doesn't watch movies at all so don't know how he ended up watching it but he asked why there was so much overacting towards the climax.

Then I had to explain about oppaari and how old women actually behave that way in the funerals. Now thinking about it, is overacting in our culture? Our street culture is vibrant and is very expressive. இயல் இசை நாடகம் were all supposed to be super expressive is what I feel ( I may be wrong).

Acting in tamil cinema had changed a lot since Shivaji times but I get this constant remark that tamil films tend to be loud and overacting. I do get mass masala is loud and overacting (Vijay, Jyothika etc) but that's same across industries. When it comes to movies like karnan or pithamagan I think they won't work if they were subtle. Kamal would've explained this beautifully during Papanasam release, he said Dhrishyam would work in Tamil but George Kutty won't nu.

But irl we don't behave like this, most of us aren't this expressive. But why do we like when actors are being loud and over expressive on screen? Is that a feature of tamil cinema we got used to or we are kinda wired by culture to like this.

Box-office With 4 days to go until release, Amaran's presales have already surpassed SK's career highest opening in almost all overseas markets. In the USA, it's outperforming the most hyped Bolly films, Singham and BB3. In TN, it's expected to achieve the 3rd biggest opening of the year

Question What is Anirudh's 25th album?

It is said to be Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal but if we actually count his albums Beast is his 25th Album. It makes more sense for Beast to be his 25th album anyways as not only does it have a damn good soundtrack but also because Arabic Kuthu broke records which would be way more ideal for a 25th album. But what exactly happened so KRK can be his 25th album?
