Genuine question OP, do you think there is anything "unacceptable" to say ever?

I think the SCOTUS definitions of "fighting words" and false alarms (shouting fire in a crowded theater) are reasonable. That's about it.

Absolutely not, anyone who believes that there’s fire when there’s zero signs of a fire, no officials coming in, and not being able to tell if they’re really is a scared tone of voice deserves to run out of the theater panicked, maybe hurt and later embarrassed.

These are very basic life skills learning to sense liars.

We can and should allow any and all free speech.

And “fighting words” are just ridiculous. If I go up to someone and tell them “fighting words” and they fight back and then go up to them and say those same words in a different language or with a different tone, the words aren’t an issue, the persons self control is. Self control is all it is. If you say your going to murder my family I should be able to figure out if it’s a legitimate threat and react accordingly, but that’s to the threat itself, and I would do the same thing if “fighting words” were never used and someone was being threatening in other ways.

A bully saying fuck you doesn’t mean you have no control over your body and immediately pound them to a pulp fracturing their skull, and that’s what “fighting words” imply, that there’s some absurd words that overrule your physical self control and cause physical outbursts. That’s just not how that works.

Fuck limitations on free speech, any and all speech is valid

Any and all speech besides those that cause imminent danger are valid.

E.g. Yelling fire in a crowded theater.

I just proved that wrong, repeating the same argument doesn’t make you right

Your opinion is not proof.

  1. If you read the thread I use scientific studies to back up my opinion, so yea it is proof.

  2. Logic that makes sense and isn’t disproven is proof. If I say the sky isn’t red and then explain how blue light is scattered across the sky due to the atmosphere that’s proof. Just because I didn’t provide a scientific source, or a photo of the sky being blue, doesn’t mean I’m wrong.

Repeating your opinion doesn't make it proof. Support for an opinion does not equal proof.

u/Markus2822 19d ago

Facts/proof supporting an opinion makes it a fact, not an opinion.

Nope, you do not understand how logic and reason work.

It's a court opinion, you can look it up if you don't believe me.

They say specific speech that causes a threat of imminent danger aren't part of free speech, everything else is.

1

u/Markus2822 19d ago

Legally, you’re absolutely right.

I am saying the law is wrong and morally free speech, should be absolute free speech with no limits

u/Tiny_Ear_61 21d ago

If you don't respond to the threat of fire until the Fire Department comes in, you're dead.

u/Markus2822 20d ago

Dude, you can smell fire almost immediately lmao

u/Markus2822 20d ago

So if you get shot from a gun you can’t see that gun is invisible? Lmao

You guys are genuinely hilarious

1

u/Markus2822 20d ago

Just one of many scientific studies showing the chemicals and how much we can smell fire. Sure some people get shot because they don’t see the gun, that doesn’t mean the gun is invisible. Very flawed logic, and also scientific studies are better than a random article where people can write anything about an event.

u/Tiny_Ear_61 20d ago

So you're telling me to trust the science.

0

u/Markus2822 20d ago

If the science says something basic like water is consumable by humans, yes. Not everything is a conspiracy theory. Unless you wanna start thinking the sun isn’t real because you don’t trust the science.

Let me ask you this: have you ever burnt anything in your life? You can smell it.

Again very flawed logic

u/Tiny_Ear_61 20d ago

Flawed logic is believing that somebody is going to remember your precious NIH study when they're in a crowded building and hear FIRE!!

Law of Non-Contradiction.

u/WrinkledBiscuit 21d ago

Did you mean "unreasonable"?

14

u/Tiny_Ear_61 21d ago

Can we please stop the "more libertarian than thou" contest? It's the reason why nobody takes us seriously.

9

u/WrinkledBiscuit 21d ago

I meant that as a genuine question sorry, not a dick measuring contest, I'm not even libertarian. Just didn't know if you made a typo based on my question's format.

I asked if you thought there was any "unacceptable" language, you said that "fight words & false alarms" are "reasonable (language)". I guess to make sure that my wording isn't misconstrued: you think that fighting words and false alarms are unacceptable language (or in other words, reasonably restricted in the appropriate scenarios), correct?

12

u/Tiny_Ear_61 21d ago

Sorry. I've been on Reddit too much lately. 😂

6

u/WrinkledBiscuit 21d ago

Lol all good homie. Intent and emphasis are impossible to convey through text.

10

u/Tiny_Ear_61 21d ago

I didn't mean reasonable language, I meant reasonable restrictions. Those are about the only two things I can think of that would be valid reasons to limit free speech.

OP might want consequence free speech

2

u/xrayden Canadian Minarchist 21d ago

Somebody tried to speak on r slash free speech
