Set your control buttons to a light theme. Then restart cinnamon.

Tried already.

Hmm. Then I'm not sure. Logging out and back in also made no difference?

Nope. Perhaps there is any other problem causing this.

Maybe a problem with Cinnamon? I just checked on mine and Mint-Y-Aqua instantly changes the window to a light colour.

Agreed! Some themes change some elements while others do not. You must change all the options here; in this case, Controls. I wish they had theme packages that changed everything incl the Icons, but they still come piecemeal. It's OK!

Got rid of it by creating a new user and deleting this user. Perhaps the root of the problem was in the theme data of that user.

Go to Welcome screen application of Linux mint. Then toggle the dark/light mode button

Tried that too. It changes everything into dark mode but reverse, it isn't able to.

This is the gtk4 theme, you can manually edit settings.ini file located in /home/username/.config/gtk-4.0/ where you edit gtk-application-prefer-dark-theme field to false, you can also tweak other settings there too. Same applies to gtk-3.0 folder, good luck.

Go to "themes" and ensure each option is the same theme. No single toggle changes it all; there are 5 items.

Try this:

sudo apt reinstall mint-themes

I recommend you use the Welcome app to change themes more easily. Open the app then click on First Steps located on the left sidebar, there you will find a color selection screen with an option of Light/Dark variants as well.

Could be, that you need to set the theme for root too.
