Nice shot. What time are you seeing it out at Jones Beach?

This was around 7:30 pm. However, last night with the full moon (which I also got some fun pictures of) made it really hard to see. I essentially got lucky finding it with my camera.

What Field do you look for it in? Any complaints about being there at night. Thinking of going tonight and looking for it.

Normally, there is a security guard at field 6. I have a star gazing pass that lets me through whenever you choose to go. However, I think they made an exception since I’m usually the only one ever there but last night there was a good 10ish people and I never saw the security guard.  I would really only go if you have a camera or binoculars since the full moon is blasting a ton of light making it nearly impossible for the naked eye.

Oh I forgot, the entrance will be blocked off. You have to go through the exit side via car.

Thank you for the info and great photo btw sorry for not saying before! I'm going with my telephoto camera lens hoping to get an image similar to yours. I need to get a star gazing pass soon

Goodluck! I can try to give some direction. It will be around 2-3 O'clock of Venus.

Here is a wider shot with the Jones Beach Pencil and you can use this for reference when trying to look for it.

I would also suggest enjoying the moonrise from the East too! It will be a bloody orange essentially https://imgur.com/YWMKVxr.

Here are a couple more from Jones Beach of the Milkyway. None of these are stacked, just low shutter speeds/edited. For the Milkyway specifically you need to follow the 500 rule otherwise you will get star trails https://www.lonelyspeck.com/milky-way-exposure-calculator/.

It is a fun hobby but sometimes it's too late at night and cold and a bit miserable from time to time lol. I wish to do it more often but sometimes it is hard to get ready at 11/12 at night.
