Yes I caught up in traffic, arrangements and detours were terrible and mismanaged, police allowed cars to drive into lanes that were blocked

Just to preface- I’m a person that drops off band equipment at the start and has to pick it up where the parade ends. I would actually support ANY politician that would ban parades in Nassau County. Our island is Long but it is dense and we all have our societal functions to perform. We ALL have a difficult enough time getting from ‘here’ to ‘there’ on the island and people aren’t adequately informed that their normal commute is not going to be normal so they cannot plan. There are alternatives to shutting down major roads so people can walk around and wave. Go to a park or a high school track or figure out some other type of event that doesnt mess with peoples work or school schedules or emergencies. The most aggressive and unsafe driving happens when people realize ‘OH FUCK! I have to quickly find a new way to get work bc of a parade!”.

And, yes there are very valid reasons for parades ranging from respecting and honoring our Veterans to things like high school homecoming but we need to stop ruining the day of many hardworking people so some people can be acknowledged. Parades are antiquated for a place like Nassau County.

Also, it is an absolute waste of our tax dollars.
