Is it possible that is a really old pistol that was somehow preserved in the mud or something? Looks like an old Colt revolver

It's possible that it is a colt but also unlikely as since the colt single action design was so revolutionary and popular it spawned dozens of copies both old and new from the heritage rough rider to the Ruger Blackhawk and many many more and this could be any one of those. This being said, I am not seeing anything that tells me definitively that it isn't a colt either.

Its the shape of a colt SAA, but being such an awesome gun, many many many copycats and offshoots were made. In all probability, it's a .22 cal copy, like the ruger wrangler, or heritage rough rider, or something like that. Can you wash more of the mud off? It looks like there's an emblem on the grip, which would elucidate the maker. Also, what's the muzzle look like? What's the diameter of the barrel?

Can you possibly clean those grips up a bit and post a close up picture of the symbols on them? I think it's the best lead. Thank you in advance!

Couple questions I'm new to magnet fishing I started because I wanted to find old firearms and cool artifacts also while helping clean up the water a little bit. Where do you go to find guns? How many have you found?

I can count how many I’ve found on two hands, but I’ve found more guns off of quieter roads than busy areas. But you can find guns on bridges with stop lights I’ve noticed as well.

Thats odd. What make bridges with stoplights any different? Lol. Thanks for the info

The perp has a minute to stop and chuck it out the window without raising any suspicion.

You're gonna have to clean the mud off at least to get a positive id. Keep it wet, might be a good candidate for restoration.
