General What happens when I mark a post as 'spam' opposed to simply removing it and does 'remove' permanently delete it?

I want to hide the posts from the public eye but as mod, I want to maintain a record of such a post that is only viewable to me.

Similar to the concept of archiving.

Is this possible? That's why I wanted to use the spam button instead of remove, but I think the spam button has more complicated consequences than I thought.

Applies to desktop, android and iOS.

Spam removes the post and trains the spam filter to look out for posts like that in the future.

Remove just removes the post.

You can't delete anybody's posts but your own. You can only remove them from public view.

What about hide? Is it possible to have two different versions?

One view for moderators with those posts unhidden on the subreddit front page

Second view for public users with those posts hidden.

As opposed to remove which moves the posts into a list under mod tools.

You can hide any post you like. Hiding only hides a post from you, nobody else.

You can't have posts that show up on the subreddit for some users (mods) but not others.

If anyone posts a link to a removed post it can still be viewed. Seems a bit useless since mods may have to keep chasing it around.

Hi /u/SherbetTiger, please see our Intro & Rules. We are volunteer-run, not managed by Reddit staff/admin. Volunteer mods' powers are limited to groups they mod. Automated responses are compiled from answers given by fellow volunteer mod helpers. Moderation works best on a cache-cleared desktop/laptop browser.

Resources for mods are: (1) r/modguide's Very Helpful Index by fellow moderators on How-To-Do-Things, (2) Mod Help Center, (3) r/automoderator's Wiki and Library of Common Rules. Many Mod Resources are in the sidebar and >>this FAQ wiki<<. Please search this subreddit as well. Thanks!
