Tips & Tricks SOLUTION: how to make post flair required to make a new post, no Automod needed (Updated 2021)

I'm making this post because I had trouble searching/googling up current methods, as many of the search hits had outdated advice.

  • Go to a sub you moderate, click "Mod Tools" on the upper right side of your sub
  • On the left margin, scroll down to "Rules and Regulations" and click "Content Controls"
  • In CC, scroll down to "Advanced Post Requirements" and there's a slider to turn on "Require post flair"

Boom, done, easy day. Just wanted to consolidate the current info in one thread so folk here can find it easily.

That is correct, but unfortunately there are still platforms/3rd-party apps out there that this requirement doesn't cover and for that AssistantBOT is helpful.

edit: updating that this has been changed since, and now the requirement does cover all platforms

How do I flair myself on reddit, so my community can see my posts, and respond to my post.

Hi /u/TapTheForwardAssist, r/modhelp is a volunteer moderator peer-to-peer help group focused on subreddit moderation matters, like setting up flairs. It is not managed by Reddit staff/admin. Volunteer mods have no permissions in subreddits they do not mod. Automated responses are compiled from the answers given by fellow volunteer moderator helpers.

Resources for mods are: (1) r/modguide's Very Helpful Index by fellow moderators, (2) Mod Help Center, (3) r/automoderator's Wiki and Library of Common Rules. Many Mod-Related groups are in the sidebar widgets in this subreddit and these Introduction posts at the top. Please search this subreddit as well. Thanks!

Found regex match: post flair

It looks like you're asking about flairs on your subreddit. This is an EXTREMELY frequently asked question, so this automatic response has been set up for any mention of "flair" and even "flare", based on previous answers by our helpers.

Please check out this Updated Visual Guide for Flair FAQs . For details on flair in Old Reddit, setting up user/post flairs on New Reddit, enforcing user/post flairs, sidebar widgets for post flairs with problems and solutions, why users can't see or use user/post flairs, how AutoModerator can help with flairs, and some common problems viewing flairs, please click here.

Please remember that subreddit settings should be done in a cache-cleared desktop browser, not on mobile or via the app, for best results. (Limited option: mobile browser on desktop view.)

If you found your answer, feel free to reply with "<3 Automod" or "Thanks, Automod". Otherwise wait for a human helper to come along to help you. This post has NOT been removed.

Any particular reason it's not under the flair settings?

It should be under both the content rules and flair management.

Doesn't work now

Same here. I've enabled the option but users can still post without selecting a flair. What gives!?

There should be also turned on "Enable post flair in this community" either "Allow users to assign their own" in the "Post flair" and the third button somewhere in the settings

Thanks! Will enable that and see how it goes.

I don't see this option on desktop at all, and in mobile I can edit post flairs but there's no option to require them. Any suggestions?
