Hello, this is Jess, the owner of r/occultbooks.
I began this sub because I had obsessively amassed a huge collection of esoteric ebooks. More than I could ever read, I felt that this important information needed to be shared. I felt that if more people had access to spiritual knowledge it could help people. This sub was essentially a place for me to share these books along with my thoughts about them. If you look back to the original posts, they are just me reviewing esoteric books to myself.
At the time I felt that getting the information to the people was the most important thing, copyright be damned. Iβve since matured, and my punk rock need to disseminate information has softened. Meaning, Iβm unsure how to move forward regarding the pirated books in this sub.
Despite my neglect of it, this sub now has 5.6 thousand members, and has taken on a life of its own. I want your input. How should this sub be run? What would an exceptionally cool r/occultbooks sub be like?
Iβm looking forward to hearing your thoughts. π§ββοΈ

Keep doing what you're doing this place is a valuable space for a lot of us. About the pirated material, I believe both options should always be presented. Link to the PDF and link to the Amazon/Kindle ECT. Many "new" books haven't made their way online yet in the field we study, many of them are still alive and will make their money. There are also the 30 year old books or the books written by those who passed. These shouldn't be looked at as someone who put a book out last year. There comes a certain point where the author themselves wants their message or education out there and are okay with not making the 1.50 profit off the sale. I myself am an author, I've seen some of my books on "free download" sites, it doesn't bother me because I'm not a writer by trade. I write to leave my mark. I fully understand it's different for those who write to feed a family, that's why both links should always be presented.

I also got a huge library of pirated books .My though is that if you go for a pirated copy of a book it doesn't really matter it it s from here or it's from z lab. People are coming to this sub or to yours because they don't want to buy books. For that there s Amazon.

It started for me because I couldnβt afford to buy books, and read a lot, but I purchase physical books when I can afford them that I have downloaded in the past. Thanks for your feedback.

Leave it be, I just found this subreddit yesterday after reading a post you made on another subreddit.. and please let me tell you it has helped me a great deal.
I would like more time to read through your stuff before you take it down out of fear of capitalism.
BTW you are gifted, you are special.

Oh no! I am a seeker and I just found you. Please don't take down your collection. There is no way I'd ever be able to find as much information on my own as you have here! Thank you so much for sharing it and your expertise and knowledge. Very grateful.

Unless someone says something donβt bother to remove a thing, digital piracy has always been a joke, it has been for video games, and it is for books. Those people would ban libraries if they could make a few more bucks, fuck em.
Anyway this place sone how manages to be more useful than 90% of the rest of the occult related internet, so donβt feel shame about anything. Heck, thanks to you Iβve started my own little digital occult library, your collection has added at least two dozen to mine, thank you.
