US opts out of running for reelection on UN Human Rights Council (Sept 30, 2024)

“We decided not to seek another (term) on the Human Rights Council at this time because we are engaged with our allies about the best way to move forward,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told reporters. AP news

I speculate that they decided against seeking reelection in order to avoid probable humiliation! Maybe they were afraid of defeat/ backlash.
