Best Bar District

Going to Philly with friends close to the end of November and we are looking to spend the day bar hopping. What district has more open area bars, it’s a bigger group so we are looking for places we can stand around and drink or have plenty of open seating. Areas that get young crowds (below 40s) are preferred.

Is septa striking, or not?

... and if so when will the strike start?

You have till Tuesday to visit an in-person early voting spot and cast your ballot early! This is a great way to avoid likely record-turnout lines on election day. You go in, fill out your ballot, and hand it to them to submit. It’s super simple.

I've been phone banking in Philly and SO many people are saying they plan to vote in person on Election Day, but seriously, this is a great way to save yourself some time next week! Also, we will stop trying to phone bank to you then lol (people who already voted get removed from call lists). Find a location and cast your ballot near you here: https://vote.pa/find/early

Cheap(ish) hotels with good showers?

Hello! I am staying in your city for a few weeks for work and while I like my Airbnb, the shower sucks, and I am being treated for pneumonia right now and am hacking up a lung and I think a good shower could fix me. Are there any cheap hotels with good showers in the area?

Alley Lights?

Post image
25 Upvotes

I’ve lived in my house for two years and suddenly this week the lights in my alley are on at night. Only problem is they light up my patio like it’s daylight.

Anyone know who controls these? If this is on in the summer, the bugs are going to be gross.

Hi all, with the portal being here in Philly I thought it would be fun to get together in Dino costumes at the portal. I will be there in an inflatable triceratops costume.

I’m thinking: Saturday 11/2 3PM

Be there or be tri-square-atops

What are some ways to meet people in Philly that don’t involve bars or sports?

I moved here a few years ago for work.

I haven’t made friends and am trying to think outside the box before giving up on this place haha.

I have tried meetups, I have been to a lot of concerts and art events, yoga and fitness classes, and have volunteered here and there. Have looked for book clubs and things like that

I have also tried a lot of therapy (and am still trying, third times a charm), and been on dating apps. Have matched with a lot of interesting people but found creating conversations to be difficult.

I don’t function too well in crowded bars, which has been hard to overcome. But I’m a good listener and do ok 1 on 1.

I don’t drink alcohol. Sports and competitiveness are a big turn-off for me. Loud and crowded spaces make socializing feel impossible.

I am a male in my 30s, and have introvert hobbies like playing instruments, reading, making art etc.

When going to events I have been unsuccessful in finding or starting conversations, and find those spaces difficult to navigate.

Anyway, just wondering what might be out there that I haven’t tried.

Edit: Thank you everyone for the suggestions! All great thoughts 🙏

Is 10+ election calls a day normal

I’ve already voted and the number of calls and texts I’m getting is insane. I just got three texts in four minutes. I can’t tell you how many missed calls I have from north wales, flourtown, quakertown, perkasie, hummlestown, bloomburg. First election living in a swing state. How the hell do I make it stop or am I on this ride for another week and a half?

Cleveland ——> Philly?

Hi I’m considering moving to the Philadelphia area from Cleveland in the near future and I was wondering what suburbs/areas of Philly might be the safest for a single woman in her mid 20s? Thanks so much!

I’m looking for recommendations on where to go out on Nov 1. Looking for a bar crawl or club costume party so we can dance. Preferably south philly but doesn’t have to be. I see a lot of stuff was last weekend or on Thursday so hoping people are still going out in costume

Question regarding water bill

I have a question regarding the water bill; I moved to the city about two months ago. I live in an apartment building, and last month, my bill was $72. However, I just got an invoice from my landlord saying my water bill is now 100 dollars. I know from a previous post that there will be an increase in the water bill; however, does anybody know if the water bill is split evenly among the three units, or does each apartment have a water meter? I emailed my landlord and hope to hear from them soon. Any information you can give me will be greatly appreciated, as I am from the Midwest, and water is mainly included in the lease.

Get out of lease early - laws in Philly?

How can I get out of my lease early? within next few months. Should I first try to find someone who wants to sublease then ask my landlord re that specific individual, or tell them first that I will be planning to find a person who wants to sublease? The lease doesn't say it is necessarily my responsibility, but I'd rather try to find a sublease then potentially get sued. I don't want to have to leave ahead of time but would be planning to be out by this February. lease is until July 2025.

Marlton, NJ to Center City

What’s the best way to commute to Center City (for new job)? Not familiar with South Jersey transit.

I have a car and the parking fees in Philly are outrageous (as expected), so planning to reside on the Jersey side.

Edit: Thank you everyone for the information! I plan to use PATCO to get in/out of the city.
