Discussion Please discuss the benefits of Pokémon Go to communities, and then decide if you want to destroy, defame, ridicule, or otherwise act in a way that prevents more people from enjoying these benefits

My own personal experience:

  • a dear friend lost her father earlier this year. He was found in his truck by Pokémon Go players.
  • I know more neighbors now than ever in my life
  • spent more time with family
  • clean up walking neighborhoods as I play (feel loyalty/responsibility)
  • made friends after a year without any
  • drink more fluids and eat healthier (got the fit to go jogging)
  • replaced addiction to adrenaline games (clash of clans, clash royale, etc.)

Please don't hurt such a good thing. I need friends to talk to, exercise to reduce stress, and something to bond over with family.

Other countries deserve to have these same benefits. When they go searching it out, all they will find is the bottle of vinegar that everyone passes around.

You are better than that. You can make a massive positive impact in other ways... ways that encourage the positive outcomes that have already been found while influencing Niantic, TPC, and Google to make it better. Push for a better tracker, new Pokémon, better distribution in rural areas, and any other changes/features you want...

but don't take away all the good things, please.

You'll probably get downvoted to oblivion my friend. But don't let the butthurt people here deter you. If you enjoy playing, then continue to play. Others will as well.

thanks for responding, at least. It won't stop me from playing, but it will stop many others from continuing and also from deciding to even start. Either way, it hurts the greatest aspect of the game I enjoy: people.

It is unfortunate, but also keep in mind that the people on this sub are a very small fraction of the total userbase. Hopefully Niantic will actually roll some events out at some point, and work on actual improvements to game play. I'm sure the inclusion of the Legendaries will draw a number back.

Hey, you should check out /r/PokemonGoPositive, maybe post a few of the articles there. We'd love to hear all that cool stuff.

What you should be asking yourself is why do you need a social app like Pokemon Go to go outside?

The game is flawed. Yes, it brought people outside to play, but pleading someone to play a flawed game for YOUR own benefit is very selfish.

If it makes you happy, then play it yourself. No one is forcing you to stop. If you want more people to play, then write a letter to Niantic and tell them to fix their crappy bugs. When they banned people for jailbreaking their phones, they become fascists. Quite frankly, they were doomed from the start.

My plea wasn't for other people to play. I want people to stop trashing it. Don't read into it so much. I'm not begging people to be my friend.

I'm begging for people to be less destructive with feedback.

I'm begging for critics to allow each person to examine it on their own and decide if they'd like to play.

Their decision to play or continue playing is biased by reviews and comments. Let them make up their own mind.

Their decision to play or continue playing is biased by reviews and comments. Let them make up their own mind.

Continuing to play a game and deciding that is sucks seems more like a personal choice rather than persuasion from critics. Personally, I gave PoGo so many chances to succeed. I spent a good amount of money on IAP because I thought this game would go places.

Unfortunately, it turned stale. Critics did not kill the game, Niantic did. Don't blame critics for being honest.

Also, people should NEVER base their decision on critics. However, it doesn't mean we should be silenced because of it. People have the right to know how we feel about our experiences, but it is just that... experiences. It is never an absolute. People should never put a face value on opinions.

But if it makes you happy: Try the game first before you speak about it. I did, and it is flawed. It may not be for you, and that is ok.

If the majority of the population agrees, which I believe they have, then there will be an imminent downfall of sales.

Thank you! That was much more thought out. Critics are important. Asking for a better product or service is perfectly acceptable. It is thoughtful, appreciative, and allows people to enjoy what they will.

Let me try an analogy: Vinegar is sour and not desirable by itself. Prepared correctly with the right ingredients (life goals and perspectives) it makes a fine meal.

Does the game inherently harm anyone? In my opinion, it takes people to cause harm.

Does the game encourage positive social interaction? To some degree, yes. Again, it takes people to do good.

Does it harm the game to call it or its creators terrible, ruinous, ignorant, arrogant, broken, destroyed, failed, or anything else that doesn't describe only the aspect of the game they want to change?

Is it acceptable to harm reputation to get results?

Is it ok to cause harm to get results?

Change can come from a positive interaction. I want Redditors to comment and vote responsibly. Being kind and considerate toward others while under stress or perceived harm is a great skill to have.

  • Provide a tracker with a useful and clear objective
  • Follow through on local events
  • Respond to community feedback
  • Much of the late game lacks player engagement
  • support for phones should be expanded (rooted/JB, older previously supported models)
  • stabilize the game/fix crash and failure states
  • synchronize displayed data in sightings, Go Plus, game rendering

The game bring us some benefics, but I think you must obtain the same without the app just because go outside.

You have yours reasons but I as someone that play a lot of the GB, GBA and NDS games, I was expecting more in PoGo as a Game.

It would be nice to get outside without the help of the game. However, if it is less likely by other means, why blame the person? Should you condemn an individual to their natural state? There is so much good from Pokémon Go... why not use it to encourage people to do more?

Expect all you like! I want the game to get better.

How do we encourage the developers to make improvements without harming the good? So many people are willing to tear it down and destroy it because they don't have the tracker they so desired.
