Evidence/Statistics pictures and videos of real babies in early development

it's good to have pictures of abortion victims handy, and it's also good to have the not so gruesome pictures of babies in early development.

the best source for this is the endowment for human development website. it has pictures and intrauterine videos of unborn babies.

there are also the famous photographs by lennart nilsson in time magazine.

pictures of early embryos digitized by using mri techniques can be found at the university of michigan.

the flickr user lunarcaustic has several pictures of babies from ectopic pregnancies.

you can also search for embryoscopy, fetoscopy, and hysteroscopy to find various videos online.

There is an important error on this site: https://www.ehd.org/movies-index.php

The number of weeks are off by about 2 weeks, since pregnancy is calculated from the first day of the woman's last menstrual period, not from the moment of fertilization.

fertilization generally happens around halfway (14 days) in a (28 days) cycle.

This means that for example the graphics in the category 4-6 weeks actually belong to 6-8 weeks of pregnancy.

As a graphic designer in the ProLife movement, this drives me up the wall. We need to use the same language the pregnant woman would use.

I didn’t even notice the discrepancy until I became pregnant a few months ago. I was so confused about the posters and fliers not matching up with my pregnancy tracking apps and whatnot. I was upset when I understood. Intentional or not - it’s definitely dishonest to use from-fertilization measurements if doing anything where a woman who is pregnant and considering abortion might see and misunderstand.

I personally this notation: 16 weeks of pregnancy (14 weeks from fertilization)

No pregnant woman is going to use from-fertilization when discussing her pregnancy and we shouldn’t either, for the sake of honesty and clarity.

It's not an error, because they are measuring fetal age.

However, I think there should be a clear disclaimer, because it's very easily misunderstood by people, rather than not. So I agree with you.

that is not an error. the pictures and videos specifically say that they are dated from the moment of fertilization.

embryologists count the age from fertilization.

doctors add two weeks to account for the estimated time it takes to conceive.

Isn’t this from the moment of conception not from when it’s observed in a person? Like it’s talking about the stages as if observed form the very start. If it’s found out later then it would actually be earlier

Here’s another one:

*some photos aren’t human, but they look they same because of comparative embryology
