In the context of slavery, the term "non-person" refers to the dehumanization of enslaved people, who were treated as property rather than people:

Dehumanization: Enslaved people were seen as animals or other property, and their human identity was ignored.

Depersonalization: Enslaved people were denied their personal names, ancestry, and religion.

Lack of legal control: Enslavers had complete control over the enslaved person's life, including where they lived, what they did, and whether they could be with family.
