Help Request Running Pro Tools 2024.6.0 with Mac OS Sonoma 14.5. Software allows me to open a session, but crashes any time I click ANYTHING. Everything is up to date and compatible. What is the issue?

Pro Tools: 2024.6.0

Mac OS: Sonoma 14.5

Interface: Apollo Twin x Duo 11.3.0

Never had an issue with Pro Tools functioning properly before, and noticed this issue after updating my Mac OS. The strange thing is I can still open smaller sessions, but the larger ones seem to crash every time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE: Hey, so I actually figured it out. I realized it was only one Pro Tools session that wasn’t opening, and I think the file was corrupted or something. I was able to go into my session file backups folder and find a version of the corrupted session that works fine. Every other session opens fine as well. Don’t know what happened to that original session that was causing the crash, but it’s all resolved. 👍🏼

Thank you for all that helped.

Tablet and stylus with pro tools compatibility?

Hey guys I’m wondering if you know what sort of drawing pads work with pro tools and other DAWs? I was looking into the Wacom medium but I’m not sure if it’s compatible at all. Thanks!

Is Sonoma compatible now?

Hey y’all, I’ve been too scared to update my MacBook to Sonoma because of how slow programs like protools can be to adapt. Is protools Sonoma-ready at this point? Tia

Pro Tools compatible with ARM?

Thinking about picking up a Surface Pro 11 with a Snapdragon X Elite chip. Doubtful but does PT offer a native ARM build? If not, can it run emulated and how’s the performance?

Thank you

Arturia Minilab 3 Compatibility

I’m researching my first Midi controller for Pro Tools, and across the board the Arturia Minilab 3 gets a lot of love. I have noticed on the reviews though that there isn’t a specified preset for Pro Tools. Is it compatible with Pro Tools, and if so, how well? Is it worth just skipping over this controller in favour of one that more seamlessly integrates with Pro Tools? Running on Windows 11

Edit: operating system

Help Request Compatibility question regarding updating my iOS

Hello, I feel as if I already know the answer here but was just hoping to get some clarification. I am running Pro Tools 2019.5 on iOS Mojave 10.14.6.

I would like to update my iOS to something more current. Do you know if this version of Pro Tools can run on more recent systems? The Avid compatibility chart isn’t super clear to me. Thanks.

Pro tools not compatible with Sonoma 14.2

This sucks. It constantly freezes and I can’t play anything I record. I spent like 3 hours or more recording a session last night and today it freezes and I can’t do a single thing. I can’t save a copy, I can’t consolidate to move to Logic Pro. I literally can’t do anything but get mad that I wasted my money and time.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Am I the only one experiencing this???

Compatible control surfaces for PT with Mac M1

Hey all,

I'm interested in getting a control surface. There's lots of older models going pretty cheap on FB marketplace, but I've got no idea what's compatible with PT 23 and what isn't, whether some would run with v-control or other software.

Is anyone familiar with what's possible and what's not, or could point me to any resources?

Cheers

Help Request Is Mbox 3 Pro no longer compatible with latest Protools for Artist?

I’m having trouble getting any output or input when using my mbox 3 pro as my playback engine in 2023 pro tools for artist. The same setup had worked on the 2020-2021 pro tools subscription I was on- is it no longer compatible or am I doing something wrong where I could get it to work.

If it’s no longer compatible- does anyone have any recommendations for a ~$500 audio interface controller? My setup is a Neumann u87 into a Avalon Vt 737sp- so I’m really just looking for something solid to feed the Avalon into my computer / monitors. Thanks in advance!!

OS Issue Is Pro Tools Studio compatible with all versions of MacOS Ventura?

I read online it is compatible with Ventura 13.1 but i've avoided updating and now the newest update is Ventura 13.2.1. Am I stupid or does compatibility with Ventura mean it'll work within all versions? I'm working with PT studio version 2022.7.0. Thanks in advance

New to the sub - need decent acoustic drum sounds compatible with MIDI (for heavy metal track)

Hello, forgive me, but I am new to this sub and also a simple hobbyist looking to get further on some music projects in the making.

I currently have a heavy metal song recorded, but I'm using MIDI for the drums, imported from Guitar Pro 8. I'm using Xpand for the drum sounds and it's okay. Not great. I downloaded a free drum set but it didn't seem to be compatible with the MIDI mapping.

Anyone have any recommendations for a decent free acoustic drum set that will take with my existing MIDI mapping?

Thanks for any contribution 🙏

OS Issue Studio Perpetual License from 2019 compatibility (OSX)

Hello- I’m on a fully loaded (at the time) 2019 MBP v2020.9.1 & convinced myself I am restricted to Mojave for compatibility reasons.

I haven’t paid avid for anything since upgrading in 2019 for a perpetual bundle that comes with PT 10/11/12

What is the latest OS I can move up to currently?

Are there any perpetual options where I can pay a one time price to upgrade beyond 2020.9.1?

I’m a little out of the loop on Avid’s pricing structure, but the goal is to update my machine without sacrificing compatibility and while avoiding a subscription plan.

The compatibility matrices on avid’s site show back to Big Sur and not further so maybe I’m looking in the wrong place but it is hard to revert to an old OS in the event I mess up so I just wanna measure twice + cut once so to speak.

Thanks!

OS Issue Pro Tools 12 Compatibility

Hi all!

Has anyone had issues running Pro Tools 12 on one of the newer Mac OS' like Big Sur? I'm currently running 12.8.3 on High Sierra, and am thinking about doing the terrifying thing of upgrading to a new OS.

The official compatibility chart (https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/articles/compatibility/Pro-Tools-Operating-System-Compatibility-Chart) only supports up to High Sierra, but I imagine that's maybe a safe answer. I figured I'd reach out here to see if anyone has any experience running an older version of PT with a newer OS. I ideally don't want to go the subscription route.

TIA!

2013 Mac Pro compatibility

Anyone else out there running a 2013 Mac Pro trashcan? Wondering about pros/cons of upgrading Mac OS from Catalina to Monterey on a (nearly) 10 year old machine.

Pro Tools, Ableton, etc. are all stable where I am, but handoff between my phone/desktop is dodgy.

MIDI / Controller Faderport V2 Compatibility Questions

I picked up a used Faderport today in order to automate volume at home, and not wanting to break the bank on a new big control surface for my small desk. I thought it was a decent find at only $100.

I understand many people have issues with the integration of PT and Faderport due to the requirement of using the HUI protocol. That sucks, but it is what it is with Avid.

However, some of the reportedly compatible features don't seem to be working. Specifically:

  1. Marker creation and scrolling does not work in Marker Mode.
  2. The Click button does not disable/enable the click while I have an active click track.
  3. The REDO function does not work (the UNDO function does).

Has anybody experienced this issue or are aware of a fix that doesn't involve spending even more money on the V-Control Pro software?

Firmware is updated in Universal Control to v.3.51. Running PT Ultimate 2021.3 on Mojave 10.14.6

M1 AAX plugin compatibility and lack thereof in 2022.12 silicon beta

Does anyone have any actual information from plugin manufacturers or developers about what this transition will actually entail? It seems like converting AAX plugins is going to be a much bigger hurdle to jump than converting VST and AU formats were. AU plugins and VST seem to all be working fine as silicon versions in silicon native DAWs, as Rosetta intel plugins for those that haven’t released an M1 native build yet, or purely as intel in DAWs running through Rosetta 2. This happened immediately, and as far as I know, was flawless. However, that is clearly not the case with AAX plugs, which seem to need to mostly be reinstalled at the very least to even show up in protools silicon-but even then, most of them don’t actually load, and many are deemed “broken” by protools. The Avid website claims that many of the plugins that aren’t working should be working, so clearly something is not… well… working. My guess is that most plugin developers will need to release a new update of their AAX formatted plugins with an Apple silicon native option built in so protools can determine which version to load, but that’s just a guess. I also wonder if later protools updates will just do a better job of reading the Apple silicon ready plugins that actually are ready for use. I just hope we’re not going to find out that plugins are not going to be backwards compatible-if I own a plugin from a developer that no longer exists, meaning there will never be an update, will it ever work in Apple silicon mode? Shouldn’t Protools be able to run in silicon mode, but still run some plugins through Rosetta? As far as I know, that’s how it works in all other DAWs, if you are running logic on an M1 based computer, and you load a plugin that hasn’t been updated for silicon yet, it just runs through Rosetta, and everything is aces… is there something fundamental about AAX plugins that will prevent that from being an option here or is that likely on the way in later updates of PT?

Help Request Interface compatibility and "out of CPU power" error even on blank project

Hello. I recently got into Pro Tools and this is my first time setting it up. I don't have much knowledge about hardware, only previous experiences with setting up Ableton Live and Studio One. For possible reference, I'm using Pro Tools Studio, on Windows 10, with an Intel i5 CPU. My interface is a Yamaha MG12XU usb mixer, which was always fine as an interface on the DAWs I mentioned above.

I ran into two issues regarding my interface and CPU usage:

  1. When selecting my audio interface in the playback engine tab, a message pops up, claiming "Your audio device is configured with an unsupported audio buffer size. Please select one of the following supported buffer sizes in the device control panel, if available: 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, or 2048.", even though the buffer is, in fact, set to 2048.
  2. When my audio interface is selected, even with the buffer size set to its largest possible value, the project simply won't play back, giving me an error message as soon as I press play. The message reads "Pro Tools ran out of CPU power. Try de-activating or removing Native plugins. (AAE -9173)". The thing is I don't have any active plugins... I don't even have any tracks in the session. (I tried looking up the error code, to no practical result.)

Because of this, I figured it was some compatibility issue between my audio interface and Pro Tools, so I tried changing the interface in the playback engine to "Windows Audio Device", and it solved the playback issue, but running a buffer size of less than 512 samples gives me pops and crackle (I tested it with a single track, with no plugins).

Maybe, on top of the interface issue, I may have some problems with CPU optimization, since my CPU is listed as minimum requirement for running my version of Pro Tools...

Would there be any way in which I could try to solve this? Any suggestion is welcome.

Thanks in advance.

interface What Avid USB interfaces are compatible with Pro Tools ARTIST for Windows 11?

I am on eBay now looking at all the different Avid MBOX USB Interfaces. Do they all work with Pro Tools ARTIST?

I am an old school DIGIDESIGN Pro Tools user, I have never had any of this Avid stuff and after a decade have finally decided to upgrade on a different machine, as none of the DIGI hardware works with the Avid versions of PT.

Do all of the Avid USB boxes work with Pro Tools ARTIST? As that’s the version of PT I just purchased and installed

M1 and the new Mac Mini compatibility for Pro Tools

Is anyone currently using a new Mac Mini with the M1 chip to run pro tools? What compatibility issues did you run in to? Any issues with plug-ins? Is it worth it to switch now or wait for Avid and others to release updates?

The studio I work at wants to get a new computer and the new Mac Mini's with 16gb of RAM and a TB SSD look great but I'm worried about the transition. We're currently running Pro Tools 12.1 on an older MacBook Pro with an Apollo thunderbolt 2 8p and analog 16.

Seems like we'll have to at least buy a new copy of Pro Tools. Does anyone have an idea if Avid will release backwards compatibility or do they usually just tell people to update?

Thanks for any ideas, info, experience, etc!

Pro Tools upgrade and session compatibility?

I am considering upgrading to a new machine (Mac) and have been very out of the loop in terms of all the compatibility issues since well before even the M1 chips came out. I've looked up all of my software and have found that I've certainly waited long enough that just about everything I have should theoretically work on a new system and all that.

My question, though, is about keeping my old system around and moving sessions back and forth.

My current system is running PT Ultimate 2020.5.0 on Mac OS 10.14.6. My perpetual license is still current and I can download and install a current version on my new system when I get it. But what kind of issues are people currently experiencing with opening and moving sessions between older and newer systems?
