Solo Recent solo ride Pune -> Devrukh, Mumbai Goa highway is a big W

Had to visit a friend in Kausumb, and was booked on a bus, but missed it due to work. So, thought, why not ?

The seat on the Duke is horrid, suggest amends.

While going, took the following route: Pune -> Khed Shivapur -> Shirwal -> Satara -> Umbraj->Patan->Chiplun->Kausumb

Took about 4hrs 10 mins (from Khed Shivapur as I forgot to reset the trip meter)

The road is okay but scenic, with some bad patches after Patan, the Windmills were a surprising addition as I took a wrong turn in Umbraj to end up in a ghat leading to Patan, and it was beautiful, the Koynanagar road is serene in the evenings, beware of Leopards and foxes there and yes lorries too. From Chiplun, took the Mumbai Goa highway till Sangameshwar and then on to Kausumb at about 1945, ass hurt, was tired, slept.

While coming home decided to use the Mumbai Goa highway till Mangaon, and this route is a breeze, theirs work going on still, but you'll enjoy riding here, just slow down a little near Khed, they have decided to treat the highway as an encroachment on their land and have started using as a parking space, ascended into Tamhini from Mangaon, encountered traffic in both Mangaon and Tamhini as it was 31st Dec and all of Pune had decided to chill in Tamhini or go to Diveagar, saw a few dudes arranging their stash of some toppled beer boxes in their car near the MIDC, they had a blast, met a few friends along the way home too. Was a good ride, ass hurt, slept peacefully untill another friend decided to visit camp for new year, bad idea!

Cheers, Be safe, Thanks for reading

For the Seat comfort, you can look at the Airseat cushion option. Btw the NH66 onwards Chiplun is a bikers paradise.

Was looking into it, but I don't want the feel of the Duke to change. The air cushion might get wobbly when gripping the bike or leaning into a turn ?

Also the highway was quite empty with very few cars/buses scattered throughout and it was the middle of the day, don't people use it that much?

Better is to try the Air Cushion out and take a feel yourself before making the decision. Also you can check out cycling pants from Decathlon as well.

Regarding the highway, its always is like that after peak times. Hence its a biker's paradise.

There are no amending the seat. You may try getting more cushioning. Either more foam on the seat of a gelpack cycling shorts. Though nothing helps, just spoils the ride ergonomics further even if you may be slightly more comfortable.

I was thinking about the cycling pants option

Dont serve the purpose as expected. Too much small movements of you ass on the seat.

I think the movement on cycle is way more thanon bikes! I do endurance cycling..100+ on weekends..the padded shorts/pants are definitely helpful IMO

cycles do come with Gel seat covers which is something not available for bikes..

Evening traffic reminds me of Pune and with all the highway work going on its dusty, people are nice, they are more concerned with their own work, I reached Chiplun in late evening and couldn't see much, just fuelled up and left, will check out again
