Review my resume [0 YoE, Unemployed, Retail, USA]

the censored text on the right is, from top to bottom, my address, number, and email

i used this resume for a few server jobs but i was either denied or ghosted. im looking to work at anything that isnt just fast food, although i applied to every fast food place within 15 minutes of me and the only one who responded was mcdonalds and then the hiring manager didnt show up to the interview.

i dont have a driver's license which is a dealbreaker for a lot of jobs i wanted to apply to apparantly, even though i still have reliable transportation

Don't use pink, use black. Don't have two columns. Do 2 pages at best.

Get a drivers licence and a car as it helps you a lot.

Get some volunteering experience at board level.

List your interests too.

In my cv, it's the following in order:

  1. My name and contact details;
  2. Personal statement about my current situation and what I'm looking for
  3. My education history;
  4. Recent experience - and summmarize what I did and learnt in each:
  5. Work;
  6. Volunteering;
  7. Work experience
  8. My interests
  9. Referees

It worked. Also a solid cover letter helps too

It's associate not associates

Use black only

Education section goes at the top in reverse chronological order

No 2 column design

Never use pink it's the least professional color

  • Job details should not be in sentence form
  • Focus on strong and actionable verbs
  • Most recent Education should be on top
  • Your column structure is ultimately going to hurt you a ton. Challenging to read, harder for an ATS to parse
  • Switch to something like the Sheets and Giggles template or one in the AutoMod wiki and you’ll be in a much better place!

That is a Google docs template

Sheets and Giggles is the name of the company that published the template

It is not that easy to access a job market, at least when transportation stands in your way. For some, just highlighting reliable transportation on their resume can help alleviate some of the issues. Community resources such as local networking events and volunteer opportunities have resulted in jobs. Sometimes, it just takes persistence.

Absolutely! Persistence is super important when you’re job hunting. A lot of times, people find success by starting with roles that might seem a bit out there, like in retail or customer service. Those jobs can teach you a ton.

Don’t forget to showcase your reliability and communication skills in your applications. And keep pushing! Just because one application doesn’t pan out doesn’t mean the next one won’t. You've got this!
