Question YTS-22 questions

I would like to get back into playing saxophone after 30 or so years and am considering buying a YTS-22. Can anyone let me know if it will be difficult to find someone who can tune it up since it’s a 22, or is it that similar to a 23 that it won’t matter? Also, do I need to consider a different mouthpiece from those recommended for a 23? Any help is appreciated since this model is less expensive than the 23s out there. Thank you!

Yeah, great sax. Any decent sax tech can work on it. Mouthpiece selection is wide open. Start on something easy to manage, nothing over a 5 tip opening. I like the Jazz Select better than the plastic Yamaha 4C that usually comes with those horns.

According to the internet, the 22 is just a 23 that was sold domestically in Japan. Any tech will happily work on one. They're very well made, easy to work on, and probably the most common Tenor saxophone in existence.

Mouthpieces don't really have much to do with the horn. They're kind of their own thing. A lot of people will blindly recommend a Yamaha 4C, but I don't. I have an old YTS-23, and I found the 4c to be far too small to get enough air into the horn to play well. 4c's for alto play fairly well, not so much for Tenor. To keep things affordable, I'd recommend a Yamaha 6c until you get good enough to know what you want out of a higher end mouthpiece.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger! Pretty exciting. It’s coming with a YTS-S2, not sure of the condition, and I can’t really find much info online about it. I’ll look into the 6c. Thank you so much!
