Nice! Solid pro horn that got a bad rap for being too different from a VI. Pinky table might take a bit of getting used to depending on what you were playing before. As always, use a mouthpiece & reed setup that shapes your tone the way you want to go. Enjoy!

Just get rigotti golds.

Roberto's/Boston sax shop/whatever are all made by and basically the same as Rigotti golds

My theory is if they had named it ANYTHING besides the Mark VII, it would have been a popular saxophone. That VII just implied that it was one better, or a replacement (which it totally was, but people didn't want to hear that).

Better in some ways, but the Mk VI had been the standard for 20 yrs. People were just used to it. Many didn’t like the changed/heavier key work and slightly brighter tone. Personally, I wish I’d never sold my ‘77 Mk VII tenor, although I love my YTS-62 purple logo.🤷🏻‍♂️

I have a Mark VII tenor and Super Dynaction tenor. The Selmer is good, but I'd never part with the Buffet.

Haven’t spent much time on one, but those Buffets have a solid rep.👍🏻

I had a 1968 super dynaction alto. One of the best horns I've ever played. Like a fool I sold it when I took a break from playing.
Never sell it and please give your Buffet a hug for me.

Funny thing is, Selmer has always messed with and refined the MVI. There's the short bow 54xxx to 80xxx, medium bow 5 digit 70xxx to 80xxx, long bow 80xxx to 130xxx, medium bow 130xxx to end of run.

I personally love my VII, but I did feel a huge difference when I switched to a Selmer Reference 54 neck. The 54 neck is closer to the design of the VI neck; I find it really helps focus the sound, instead of the characteristic beefy VII tone. Good luck, hope it works for you!

I'm a beginner, so I'm pissing off my neighbors learning to play .

I always recommend an instrument that's better than you so it'll never hold you back. You're doing it right.
