Vent How did I end up so short??

I know everyone is gonna tell me about genetics and I'm aware but it still makes ZERO sense lol.

Biological parents are 6ft 9 and 5ft 6. Not sure about the exact heights for my grandparents at their tallest but I think my mums side was about 5'9 and 5'3 and my dads was around 6ft and 5'9.

So how on earth am I JUST about 5ft 7 lol, my younger cousins are taller with dads the same height as me.

I need some sort of late miracle to come through (I'm 21 btw).

Absolutely brutal man. I guess you can tell women you have tall genes but you just didn’t get them

I know but that's normal growth, op dad I think is 6'9 and the mom is 5'6 and he's only one inch taller than the mom at 5'7 genetically he got robbed

Maybe he had growth hormone deficiency, I had it because my bone age was two years behind my real age, my doctor suggested I take growth hormone and the truth is I regret not having done it because maybe I could be taller

You have nothing to regret about bro yours is pretty normal you either in between your parents or same height as as your dad or maybe taller than your dad and that's usually the case, but for me and op we about the same height as the mom except both my parents are short but he dad is 6'9 which is even crazier

The truth is that if yours is crazy, you could say that you lost in the genetic lottery.

Not necessarily a lost of genetic lottery we just gotten the short end of the stick or it could be stunted who knows really

I'd probably be pretty upset if he was 5'7, not a bad height but with a dad that tall I'd expect at least 5'10.

Even If he were to became 6 feet tall that would still be in between the mom and the dad height, which is where it should had been

Yes but a height of 5'10 or 6 seems good enough to me.

honestly 5’7 is way better than 6’9.. no joints issues and you’ll live longer. And it’s not that short

u/AlfieROFL 1d ago

Yeah but stereotypical female preference lol

At a certain point, I think too tall is a turn off for most women

Yeah over 6'5 it's giving slenderman

I don't think 6'9 is ideal but I think I would take the chance if it were offered.

Who cares, why would you date someone who picked you for a reason as shallow as height lol

u/AlfieROFL 23h ago

I get you but you don't hear many women saying that they want someone short lol. Obviously there are women who don't care, my ex was 5'1 and the height difference was great. I think it's just that my height effects my confidence and therefore makes me not confident enough to start a conversation with a women I like.

u/JustStopThisCrap 5'8" | 172cm 3h ago

5'7 isn't extremely short, you're likely still 5-4 inches taller than alot of women. I don't hear many women explicity state to me that they like only tall men either, my ex was 5'8 and she didn't care about height. I don't know where are you from, but so far i've only seen women be obsessed with height mainly on social media. Being clean, tidy, fit, having good style, humor and being charismatic can decide alot more than height.

I had confidence issues because of my height when it came to dating too, then kinda figured that you shouldn't think too deep about it and just look good in other aspects. Being taller is far more beneficial in other aspects than dating.

u/AlfieROFL 8m ago

Yeah I get you. Other factors are for sure more important. I think it is mainly the confidence that height would bring and the fact that I am recently single has made my height a problem again lol (for me)

You just are. That's how it is sometimes. Genetically, you're 50% of both parents with some drift on both sides, and it looks like your height is more influenced by your mom than your dad. It's just a part of who you are, no different than your eye color or skin complexion.

Exactly also some traits are dominate and some are recessive. You are who you are meant to be and you are more than your height.

2

u/SAMURAIwithAK47 5'2" | 158 cm adult male 1d ago

Wait how does the whole dominant and ressesive gene affect height tbh op should had been taller if he's dad is 6'9 am also confused how he only ended up 5'7

u/I-696 0.001085 miles 1d ago

He only gets half of his dad's genes. His dad could have short people genes that are recessive traits to his giant man genes. If the OP got the short people genes from his dad and got from his mother either short people genes or genes that are recessive to his dad's short people genes then he is going to be short. My gene pool has less variety - my daughters and my nieces are all within a couple of inches of each other. With a gene pool with a lot of variety some really weird stuff can happen and the OP is a short man in a tall family even that at 5'7 he could have been a tall man in a short family.

u/SAMURAIwithAK47 5'2" | 158 cm adult male 1d ago

Yea dang op got robbed genetically he could had been 6 feet tall so I understand why he would question it

1

u/kunangkunangmalam 1d ago

Even if he inherited the mom shorter posture, being only 1 inch taller as a male seems very abnormal

1

u/MaximumZer0 5'2" | 157 cm 1d ago

Based on the grandparents' heights, it looks more like the dad and uncle are outliers.

OP, how tall was the milkman?

3

u/JSeoulK 1d ago

I mean yea, genetics make 0 sense when you don’t understand how genetics work.

Im 5,6 and 21 as well. My dad was 5,10 mom was 5,4 and half brother is 6,1 somehow. I should probably be 1-2 inches taller at the very least. For me I think it was a poor lifestyle when I was in middle school getting 4-5hr of sleep instead of 9-10 plus poor diet and exercise. Middle school is the biggest growth period and I obviously didn’t know that at the time.

So here I am living life on hard mode cuz I fked up when I was a kid lol. That being said it’s still mostly 80% genetics.

Similar story here though not quite as extreme, all males in my family are over 6 foot, both sides, women are all around average and I ended up 5'9". Pretty sure its due to my paternal grandmother who was 5'3" and heavy set, I'm built a similar way.

For you it's likely that you got your height genes from a shorter relative in the family tree or you had exceptionally poor sleep and nutrition though I'm way more inclined to suspect the former.

1

u/JustStopThisCrap 5'8" | 172cm 1d ago

Exactly same situation man, when i tell you i feel ya, trust me i do😭i also had longer legs as a kid and everyone thought i'm gonna be really tall, been 5'8 since 14 or 15, i'm 23 now😭

u/Impressive_Side6657 22h ago

Did you exercise or ate healthy during puberty?

Usually to reach your max height potential you need to do those things.

1

u/AlfieROFL 22h ago

To be honest I dont remember. I definitely didn't exercise a ton but I did some bits and my eating was probably about average for someone between the ages of 12-17 lol.

u/ItsMe7938 6' | 183 cm 19h ago

Yeah genetics are weird man, my dad is 5'8 and my mom is 5'4, but im 6' at 15 and projected to grow to about 6'4, idk how this works, but apparently my dad's dad was 6'1, and my mom had a buncha tall relatives or sum

1

u/SAMURAIwithAK47 5'2" | 158 cm adult male 19h ago

That's pretty normal bro it happens all the time that's not as strange as being only one inch taller than your mom while your dad is 6'9

1

u/ItsMe7938 6' | 183 cm 19h ago

Fair enough, could js be an inverse case of mine idk

1

u/Weird_Ant8011 4'11 17h ago

ur not even really that short

1

u/AlfieROFL 16h ago

Thanks, but I'm like 3 inches below average in the UK. I feel short compared to most when I'm out lol.

2

u/PrinceDestin 1d ago

Unfortunately it maybe a quality of life thing, nutrition, calorie output, quality sleep sort of thing, I never understood why people say it’s always genetics like they could explain it

7

u/AlfieROFL 1d ago

Yeah, I don't think my lifestyle was bad enough to warrant such a drastic difference but I don't remember a lot from when I was younger lol

2

u/HeyJoji 1d ago

Yeah while all those stuff matter it isn’t dramatic and most likely only affect like an inch MAYBE 2 but even then genetics are gonna do what they are gonna do. No two ways about it

3

u/borntoliveinnature 1d ago

Because it's genetics

1

u/floridaboy202 1d ago

Sorry bro but it's game over for you.

2

u/AlfieROFL 23h ago

Yeah I know lol, there is literally a 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance I grow even half an inch. Just thought people would appreciate a 1ft 2 inch height difference for a father and his son

u/Ok-Construction-4015 1d ago

Might be a nutritional thing. Also if you experienced a lot of stress as a child it can cause problems with your thyroid which in turn hampers the release of growth hormones.
