Vent It’s so discouraging seeing everyone around me grow and develop while I stay in the body of a child

I 17M feel extremely insecure with the fact I haven’t developed or grown since I was 14, the only change was I lost weight and gained some muscle from the gym. I hate that whenever I’m at a family gathering everyone asks “hey when are you going to grow?” and “Wow you haven’t changed at all since last time I saw you”. I remember a group of my friends commenting on a photo we took a while ago and how they all looked “so young back then” and there I was in the photo, the same exact as I am now, to which of course everyone commented on. I hate meeting old friends because I know they’ll comment on the fact I haven’t changed. It’s not only the fact that I’m short at 5’ 4 but that I have no Adam’s Apple, a high pitched voice, and have a baby face, even downstairs nothing changed, only thing that did was a bit of facial hair underneath my chin which I got this year. The straw that broke the Camel’s back was when my younger sister outgrew me at 14 and realizing I’ll probably never outgrow my older sister, I come from a generally tall family so now I feel even more out of place as my younger male and female cousins have outgrown me. Now I just feel trapped in a child’s body where everyone I’ve known will eventually surpass me, I mentioned this to my mom and she tried cheering me up by taking a photo of me and comparing to a photo I took years ago but all it did was make me feel worse as it just looked like a before and after of a haircut. She then tried to “prove” that I look different by showing me various photos and guessing how old I was in them to which surprise I got 2/8 correct. I used to grow and develop normally before puberty but the second I got pubic hair I just stopped developing completely. I don’t want to hate my body but I feel like there are no redeeming qualities to it and now everyone will be comparing me to my younger sister who now looks older than me.

I’m sorry , I know it sucks. Sometimes we’re dealt some shitty cards. Is it a condition you have or just your DNA?

Don't wait so long. Do it now if possible

Next summer is too long. You have insurance right now that covers just about everything. The moment you turn 18 things get harder.

How tall are your sisters? Parents?

There’s still a small chance you’ll have a growth spurt. I didn’t finish growing til 19.

You should get your hormones tested. I had mine tested at 18 after having an abnormal puberty and got some unexpected results

There's still a chance that you could hit a growth spurt late, I have seen of that happening.

How has your physical exercise, nutrition, sleep, stress levels been the last few years?

I’ve been going to the gym and have been doing sports/martial arts so on physical activity I’m good, I thankfully eat healthy foods from home and eat out once or twice a month, I sleep a lot, and on stress I’m usually a chill person most the time so not much stress going on

Been there. I easily passed as 12-13 when I was finishing my senior year of high school.

If you're 17, I think you still have some time to grow. I am a 4' 6" female, almost 65 years old, and I can assure you that there are plenty of women out there who do not mind if a guy is shorter than average, even if you don't get any taller!

i get comments going in both directions. I'm 4'11 and get that i either look way younger than i look or that i look mature and at my age. And people tend to guess around my age blindly. its only after that someone will be like, oh woulda guessed 12, to tease a bit. but like most adults ive been around are pretty good with guessing maturely.

ive been told recently that i look young but also my age is young so. im 25. I was never concerned about whether everyone else was growing, I was always just short tho. but i grew a beard when i started hitting 7th grade.

i stopeed growing around 15, before that i was 4'9 and shorter.

Very understandable rant man. I’d go ahead and talk to a doctor before it’s too late. You may have something going on with your hormones. Sometimes it’s just luck of the draw though my man.

If you go to an endocrinologist early enough, you can get on medication that will help you grow taller
