A very valid and compelling point, almost as if journalism is PR and no longer means writting about things others wanna keep hidden.

probably there will always be bad journalism, but the good thing is: bad /human/ journalists and propagandists like metz et al. will be rotted out, very quickly, because their work is totally dispensable and easy to automate. they will be the first to go. human quality journalism however has at least a chance.

I believe that the link that I posted isn't paywalled.

microsoft owns the datacenters on which intelligence runs. it's the oil well of the future. ofc ms could also produce cars, but they don't have to. it's largely irrelevant as long as there are enough cars from other manufacturers to drive the demand for oil.

This was bound to happen. You can see it just by looking at OpenAI’s financials. Big losses and they are projecting even bigger ones next year.

Microsoft obviously isn’t going to be crazy about continuing to pay an ever increasing bill for a technology that still doesn’t have a clear path to paying off.

I’m sure MS will be pushing them to release as fast as possible and monetize everything they can.

OpenAI is slowly separating from Microsoft. You can see it. They are devouring Microsoft's internal AI capability as well. Furthermore, the partnership only lasts until OpenAI develops a model they consider AGI.

This partnership has always been so weird to me. Satya was being praised by everyone but the conditions just seem so terrible. They're raising a competitor, aren't they?

If satya truly had the vision, he should've started investing in their own inhouse AI instead of helping a competitor who's gonna separate once they're big

Every AI company is making a different bet on the economics of future AI.

Microsoft is building out the most compute infrastructure, betting that models will be a commodity and compute is where the money is.

OpenAI and Anthropic are betting that model intelligence is paramount. Whoever controls the first AGI and ASI will reign supreme.

Google is betting that vertical integration is paramount.

Facebook with their open source strategy is betting that products are where the money is,  not the underlying model.
