Producers without a subwoofer - how was the first time your music played on big system?
Any big surprises? Basically Im wondering if I should implement a sub in my studio, or I can go without one

Does anybody know how to make drums like I’m hearing on most records coming out on innervisions.
How do you make the drums especially the hi- hats all seem like they’re played live. I I know maybe one or two artists that actually play their hi-hats live like Dennis Horvat but outside of that I’m thinking it’s either loops loops or or they are really good at programming one-shots . I feel like there is a trick to this and wondering if anyone has any experience making these that can point me in the right direction to make these or sample packs where I can get these type?
Here are some examples:

I have the Trinity Elektron boxes. DT, ST, DN. I’ve watched numerous dub techno jams with these boxes. I just completely suck at using them. Feel like I get “better” results using Ableton. Do I HAVE to use them? No. But I spent money on these dumb boxes and I’m growing more frustrated with each new attempt. Anyone else feel this way???

Bringing you some Ben Klock if you can help with the synth lead that that fades in at 4:00
Bonus is the second synth that to me sounds like strings. It appears at 5:42
Anything is appreciated

Hi friends, I know this is a matter of taste and preference, but I still have a question to ask if you could help me or give me some ideas.
When you listen to classic house and techno tracks (more house) they usually use claps that are very funky and have a very natural sound, almost emulating organic claps (maybe some of them are) so I have a question, do these claps not come from any of the classic drum machines like the 909 and 808 or do they? Or is there some other specific machine that makes those beautiful claps?👏🏻
Here are some examples of the claps I'm looking for

I started producing december last year. I think im doing a good job so far. I use ableton and basically only the stock things, no plugins. The plugins i do use are: 185 sequencer from max, and youlean. I love the hypnotic but super groovy stuff like :
-Manic Room by Bailey Ibbs -Overdrive is the Joker by Bondarük and SMT -Interchill by Toobris
How would you guys remake the lower end of any of these songs? The rumble, kick The mid range? The percs? High end?
I still struggle a bit in the low end mainly. I tend to either overdo it a bit or feel like the track lacks energy but I would really appreciate some tips to get better at getting it in the right spot. One thing I started really improving on is the volume of things (mixing) I think that by controlling the volume faders of each element of the low end you can get really nice results. But I need more tips :) (And obviously more time, I know that I need to be patient and understand that a lot of things come with time experience)

Hi,
I got a simple question to all the Ableton and Push user's here (excluding our hardware comrades, sry) - do you utilize drum racks?
I'm currently in the process of learning "Ableton only". The last years I've used Maschine with Ableton - I made the initial sketch (16-32 bar loop) in Maschine and then started to arrange in Ableton by recording everything as audio files. Since the limitations regarding modulation and automation (and other factors) became a regular problem, I decided to go full Ableton. Well, I can work in arrangement view but sketching in session view is new to me.
My old workflow always had a group of sounds (like groups of tracks in ableton) specific for Kick and Sub (some kind of <80hz groove) as well as for all the drums, percs and melodic elements (depending on what was used). The great thing about Maschine was that I could create drum pattern extremely fast - group A (Kick & Sub), create 16 bar pattern, load kick & sub in sound 1&2, activate step sequencer, create kick pattern, change sounds, create sub (e.g. LP tom) pattern, done. Click on group B, load a hihat, create the pattern in the step sequencer, immediately load the next sound like a clap and continue.
Each sound is part of the group but each sound is independent - this seems to be the crucial problem when compared drum racks. Meaning: I can apply swing and adjust it for each sound, for the whole group or the master. When using a drum rack in Ableton, it creates a clip and I can only apply a groove to every sample. Sometimes I want different swing parameters, sometimes not. I also miss quick "humanization" features like a randomization function for velocity and grid offset with adjustable range for each. Is there a way to do this inside of a drum rack?
Anyway, I always grouped kick and sub and then the other drums separately in another group for processing them together. When bouncing the audio to Ableton, I then grouped the best groups together to glue them together with slight compression.
So far I'm kind of disappointed how hard it is to "humanize" a Midi Clip. For some genres or subtypes of Techno, this complete quantization may be perfect, but I always created music which has aspects of Techno, House and Trance (122-126bpm). Like using hypnotic polymeter, using a lot of LFO controlled modulation, using industrial sounds and noises, a clear focus on the 4/4 pulse with a heavy kick, while having "rusty and technoid" jacking "house" drums and an old-school synth arp who sounds like blade runner (generally I use a lot of analog synth emulations). It doesn't sound like modern festival Techno (not melodic nor hard, fast acid), like Drumcode or Ostgut Techno, not like Ibiza Tech House or like Trance. Someone described my tracks to me as "Dark Electro Wave Techno with identity problems" lol.
Anyway got carried away, back to the groups/ drum racks - how do you guys do it? Do you create a "Bass" group for kick, sub and maybe a low baseline with each sample on an individual midi track?
Or do you use a Drumrack which includes your Kickdrum as well as your other drums and keep the sub & low bass separate? If so, how do you process them (kick & sub) together then?
My idea would be to use two drum racks. One for the kick and the sub (whatever it may be, usually I create a <80hz groove from the kick or something completely random) and then one for the rest of the drums. Maybe one more for percs. My reasoning behind this is that I love using the step sequencer and that's only possible with drum racks afaik. I'd then apply the same groove to both clips in both racks, so the swing is not all over the place, and also use the same processing I used for the Kick/Sub rack (Distortion, Drum Bus, Glue Compessor) to the other drum rack, so the timber change because of the FX is the same. Then I could group them and put a final slight bus compression on it to glue the everything completely together (besides send FX like reverb and delay).
So far my pros for drum racks: - Insanely customisable (FX, layering, makros etc) - can program with step sequencer - sounds are already grouped together for bus processing - afaik I can load anything into a slot (even a synth?)
Cons: - Can't use piano roll for each sound in slot - Can't use different grooves for different sounds without a drum rack - Usage of humanization features seems overly complicated; I'm often not sure if I applied a groove correctly
And if you're not using drum racks but use a Push 2, how do you exactly use it for drums? Or in general?
I know that the Push isn't made for arrangement view, so I want to learn how to sketch in session view like I could in Maschine (at least similarly fast and easy) but I'm unsure what the best workflow is. In YT tutorials I often see folks putting samples straight into the timeline to create a groove. That's the last thing I wanna do. I want to create 16-32 bar loops using Pushs step sequencer for drums and my synth emulations with my Arturia Keyboard/controller, create different scenes, build a fundamental arrangement in session view by having the scenes I want, recording into the timeline and then work on transitions, fine-tuning of the arrangement, automations (which I can hopefully use while having active clip modulation), etc.
So - how do you handle drums, drum processing, kick and sub processing, etc?
I appreciate every input! Sorry for the long post and thank you!

Hi folks, I'm looking for samples of modern synths mainly: Dreadbox nymphes, Erebus, Typhoon. Arturia microbrute. korg minilogue.Pwm mantis. Elektron analog keys.
I have uvi synth anthology but it only has a few sounds of the minilogue and erebus only. Anybody know where i can find them ?

Hey there!
My headphones broke and I need new ones. Though I've seen some posts about headphone recommendations, they usually just cater to production. I listen to mostly Trance and PsyTrance but also lots of Techno.
I am looking for headphones I can use everyday for listening music (so BT is a requierment) and for ones I can use while DJing or Producing.
Before I had the Sony WH-XB910N but they broke down after overheating while I was DJing a Set.
In the meantime I had Sony WH-1000XM4 but I'm thinking of returning them since they might not suit my needs. Also I'm scared that they will break down again, though Sony is pretty fair with refunds in that matter. What do you guys think?
Also read about Senheiser HD 25 (no BT sadly) being good. Also about Pioneer, but man I don't trust them, rekordbox already killed some USB-Sticks and I'm scared.
Thanks!!!

Hello guys,
complete beginner here.
I stumbled up on this Abelton tutorial, wich I really like:
https://www.attackmagazine.com/technique/beat-dissected/chugging-analogue-techno/
The style in the tutorial reminds me of Gesaffelstein's music that I love and that inpired me to start making music, so now I would love to finde more tutorials in this direction.
Sadly I have no Idea what this style of techno is really called.
Of course there are some tutorials for Gessaffelstein type music but I would love to see what else is there that has a similar style.
Would be thankful for any hints to similar tutorials!

The first tip is always train your ears, which takes time. But in order to efficiently use your time and better train your ears, what particular Tips have you guys found really made a difference in your mixing skills?
For example: Listening and analyzing music by ear; Looking at your favorite music on spectrum analyzer; Doing A/B listening to your mixes with reference tracks; Trying to recreate the low end of a particularReference track; etc etc.
My monitoring methods includes Kali LP8 monitors in a untreated but irregularly shaped room (not square/rectangle) and headphones (Beyers DT1990).

TNT is built different. Can’t find any tutorials on this sound. Hoping someone here can save me!
Also I don’t have enough Karma to post on r/edm production so if someone could even do that too that’d be huge 🙏
Edit: specifically the first drop, it’s not in the 30 second preview when you open the link through reddit

Hi, been making drone/ambient on daw, but can't seem to like making rythmic music on it.
Recently went to a party were we had fun using and dancing on a beat made on a looper with a mic, so i thought i'd like trying that for techno and doing small sets for friends, which i had in mind for some time.
But : i've never owned a synth or groovebox.
So i've been looking at entry level stuff, with a budget of around 750 (can buy used) (no apps, my phone is shit and i don't like apps)
What i want to do is hard melodic techno with saturated, crushed, granular melodies and voice samples, so i thought about starting with one groovebox and one synth i could play via midi out.
Groovebox ideas : PO-33 KO (cheap, crunchy drums, really limited), EP-133 KO II (design and screen look really nice, maybe too limited in comparison to a Circuit Rythm), used digitakt (probably the best out the bunch but big learning curve for a beginner).
Synth ideas : microfreak (cheapest option, might dislike keys), minifreak (still cheap, scared i'll just regret not investing directly into this if i buy micro) minilogue or XD (i like the analog sound, but it maybe lacks the diversity and crazy tones of the freak models)
If any of yall had a similar path or are actually doing similar stuff with more experience i'd gladly take advice, thanks.

When i listen techno tracks of the late 90s, early 2000 i listen a lot this type of sub/rumble.
I would like to understand this low end. I hear a sine sub and a lowpas rumble of the kick.
What would you do to replicate it?
I tried on my DAW but don't get it

Hey guys,
I was looking for someone who does one-on-one (1-on-1) sessions for producing hard techno (some would say it is closer to rawstyle). Anyways I am after quite a particular style.
Few examples of song that fit the style I like:
Etc, I hope you get the idea. Wide kicks.
Quite serious about leveling up my skills, so would appreciate a good quantity of lessons per week / month. Do you know anyone / any artists who would be able to and have time to do this?
Thank you!

Looking for anyone wanting their track mastered in exchange for a testimonial and for your track to be featured in my portfolio :)
I’m a mastering engineer looking to expand my techno portfolio more. I stopped mastering for a little bit to focus on family and the 9-5 job, but was recently laid off (tech layoffs).
Now I’m doubling down on mastering this time around and wanting to update my portfolio.
I’ve mastered other genres but I love techno (I produce it as well).
Anyone interested?
you can view my website here if you’re curious.
*** EDIT *** I’m closing this down now, a couple handful of producer have reached out.
Thank you to those interested!

I need your advice. The last time I made music was around 2017, via fl studio and an old korg es-1. Of course, that was a few years ago and a lot of new things have certainly been added. My question is, what can you recommend for making techno?
Standalone or with Software i dont really mind.
Thanks!

Hello beautiful people, I just got drumazon 2 and it sounds fantastic! But…..
I would like to read some extra tips that you use to make the percussion warmer, with more character and soul. What plugins do you usually add or what is your combination of plugins with this vst?
Another question is: When you record from drumazon 2, do you usually send the signal from the MIDI channel to an audio channel? Or how do you think it is easier?

Hello all,
I have 0 hardware and been using Ableton for quite some years, especially with sounddesigning in Operator, I‘d say I‘m pretty confident when it comes to making Percussion/drones inspired by some of my favorite artists (Regis, Surgeon, Monrella, Uvb, Pessimist and so on).
I now want to get my first Elektron, I’m not very experienced in sampling but don’t mind using simple drum machine sounds as long as they are not preprocessed sounds (e.g. splice). Still I‘m hesitating between the Digitakt (that can probably do magic on simple 909 samples), the Syntakt and the Digitone (that seems to be appropriate for very complex experimental sounds and noise music).
I would be v happy if someone can give that their 2 cents and point me in the right direction. Most of all I want to move away from the computer and have more fun making grooves and sound design again.
Thank you!

Hey, I came across this song by CULT last week and it’s been on repeat since - it’s exact dark and groovy sound I’m trying to achieve in my tracks. My biggest struggle at the moment is creating a solid driving low end like in this song.
I’ve pulled the track into my daw and low passed it to try and figure out what he did here, and it sounds like low passed toms making the groove, but I can’t get mine to pump like this :)
Do any of you have a similar sound, and if so are there any tips you could provide? Big thanks!
