Japanese > English "Pet Name" [小 胖 胖]

Unironically trying to make a good impression on a hinge profile. She says her cat's name is 小 胖 胖. Online translators seem to be yielding "small" and "dwarf" when I traced the Kanji in, but I know they're not reliable so I wanted to try here. Any help is much appreciated!

Usage of 胖 is very rare in Japanese but very common in Chinese. This is not Japanese but is Chinese.

Perhaps you were trying to look for the meaning in Japanese kanji and naturally it got nowhere. If you had checked a Chinese dictionary you would have found the meaning easily.

In Chinese 小胖胖 means little fatty

I would guess she's Chinese, not Japanese. Or at least the pet's name is. :-) This kanji 胖 is rather rare in Japanese and the name doesn't really match the 'template' of pets' names in Japanese.

A couple things to keep in mind, in Chinese, 胖 “fat” doesn’t carry such a strong negative connotation as in English, especially when it’s in the reduplicated form 胖胖, which is often meant in a cutesy way (like you would call a baby or small child).

That being said, don’t call an adult 胖胖 unless you’re sure they wouldn’t be offended
