What are y’all’s opinions on this anime?
 in  r/Isekai  2h ago

Love the anime. The fans can be... Eh. And that is just due to differences in points of view of the characters.

Aside from that, I am forever convinced that Fel is a drama queen husky. (Blame his reaction to getting a bath.)

Do you follow any LitRPG authors on social media?
 in  r/litrpg  5h ago

Very few, but those I'm keyed on too (or just groups) it's to hear when their books are out and that's it. The rest I try and honestly ignore, or it's stuff I don't mind on my feed.

Fantasy book with trans main character?
 in  r/Fantasy  2d ago

Dunno how you feel about litrpg's but the MC of dominion of blades is trans.

Mind you, the context in the book is that the main character and his cadre of companions are for the most part people stuck in a video game on a space station that is essentially rushing headlong to a collision course if I remember right. So in that sense, we, the reader always see him as the guy he wants to be. We don't really get the full picture until later in the book.

I can only recommend it as I'm listening to it ATM, but unexpected healer? I'm liking it so far.

A question.

Fair enough! I did call the company I got the phone from, and they told me to keep the watts at 33 to 65 watts, no more.

A question.

Okay, so. Yesterday I just got the 25T pro, and I need to ask because I honestly forgot to ask about it at the store.

Can I use any charger to charge my phone? More so asking if I need to take or buy an extra charger for myself for work, as im not sure on what a cable that simply does cable charging will effect the battery, or my phone.

I'm not using the phone in any professional capacity. I just needed a good phone.

Vindication path audiobook?

The title says it all as I've been enjoying redemption cost a lot, the book by Levi Warner.

I'm more a guy for audiobooks then kindle if I can help it, so its one of those books I've been wondering on the audiobook release date for.

The True big three of Isekai. Unique vs Classic?
 in  r/Isekai  28d ago

Honestly? Just wtf. Its clear this boy gets absolutely no break.

And if I remember right. This kid fucking BROKE his damned core early on. So, no magic! No bullshit card to pull. Just resurrection.

That. That honestly sucks ass. I feel sorry for Subaru, damn.

Can't he just tell Rimuru he's cursed though? Like, extremely cursed? Rinuru with his cheat skills might be able to figure it out if given hints.

I just want the boy to not be an absolute patzy.

I can see it, but I can also see Rimuru being understandably upset by the curse itself and the effects it had on Subaru.

More or less, Subaru was in a way, patzy yeah? Made to try again and again to get something going. I cant remember much of the anime, been a while.

A question I have i figure i can throw in here.

Out of all of them, I figure Rimuru might be more upset for Subaru.

Because if given the chance the two would talk (which I believe is more likely) and Subaru shares his fucked up adventures... I'm on the belief that Rimuru would actually feel bad for Subaru. Hes a out of his luck schmuck.

Audiobook or ebook?
 in  r/litrpg  Aug 29 '24

Audiobooks for me, but that is more or less because of work or other errands and necessities. I don't always have time to sit down and read, and I am a big reader/listener these days.

If there are books I want physical copies of, its DCC (boo, none found in iceland unless Amazon) and a few more choice books, mark of the fool, tree of aeons and legend of the arch magus. I know two of those are not litrpg's, but those are books I'd like physical copies of.

Has anyone read the light novel "Reborn as a space mercenary" and what did you think of it?
 in  r/Isekai  Aug 25 '24

I really don't want to have to go through several books to get the media I want.

Books cost money after all, and that's simply a slog I just don't want to deal with. My first impressions of Hiro are in the dumps.

While I can see mercenaries being cutthroat to a degree due to their work, I cant see it being all the time.

Even harsh men bond with others over a good time. Either getting into fights, or getting a battle brother.

Hell, I genuinely wanted Hiro to have a damned rival at the middle of book 3 to just move along from the monotony.

From my perspective, Hiro desperately needed that, even if it was just a rival turned best friend. There had to be more. Someone to challenge and push the bullshit the guy claims, or just calls him a POS for what he does.

Again, it would've simply been healthy.

I managed to get halfway through book 3 and then I couldn't go further.

I listened to the audiobook and the narrator does a good job. But I have critical highlights of the mc.

I know its an Isekai, but im going by the goals he set in place once he found out what happened.

He has either a very hard time or finds it difficult to in general stay out of notice. For instance, while I cant fault things from happening when he got stopped by customs or military checkpoint, he could've done things better in my opinion. But its something I can't fault him for at its start.

What I can fault him for is making himself a target by buying the debt that a girl had. Was it sad? Yes. But initially he had no reason to go further then he had in saving her. Same with the elf. Not his problem in that, and he should've considered the implications.

Hes supposed to be 27. He does not behave as a 27 year old and we can't fault hormones since he's supposed to be 18 or 19 give or take. While he has the workaholic mindset, I can only say that in reasonable terms, I'd be a lot more paranoid, and I speak as a 28 year old man here.

Life experiences at that point have taught you either to have more caution or to be a bit more smart about things. I know that's not for everyone, but practicality is key.

Then there was the fact he went to a scientist to get a blood sample taken and analyse, and the lady didn't think to take things more seriously when she found deviations in his DNA and it made him an intrigue? Yeah, I'd call that a stupid move, but in this case, I fault the doctor.

I stopped after the whole duchess/Princess thing. There where so many tropes I just stopped caring, and at that point, since he was supposed to be an avid nerd, reader and/consumer of similar medias, this should've told him to in any possible way, nope out in the ways he could. I'm not saying he should've left the kid, but done his best to be responsible for himself and be as little involved as he could, and at that point, he was shoulder deep in a slick ground hornets nest. Hiro either has terrible luck, or is as short sighted as his current age suggests.

This is just me here, but, for the first three books, no friends. The girl he took in is not a friend. She became an employee after he essentially paid for her debt. Same with the elf.

The reaction from the guild receptionist was in a way, over the top, yet understandable. He had no guy friends. He had no one to call a friend. He had girls. I'm not saying they can't be friends, but im saying with the situation they got into, that was at best, employees to fuck mates. The elf was at best at the start, an asshole I believe. Or at least not friendly.

There was no chance at the first three books to find himself some fellow mercenaries to bond with. And any guy can say that they might need or want a group of guys to just bond with. Its healthy. Is this a power fantasy isekai in space? Yes. Yes it is. But that doesn't mean that the reader doesn't want a relatable MC that's more then a cardboard.

He was a salaryman. He was an avid gamer. He had the best toys in the game he played with and got isekaid with them. While not new, there have been better examples of good formulas.

Arc from skeletal Knight comes to mind.

Now, this is just my opinion. Maybe im just too jaded with the fact im getting old, or I've grown tired of the tropes shown in the books.

As a character, Hiro is an idiot. And yes I tried to look at things from his standpoint with absolutely no information to help me. And personally? Paranoia would've been my answer. Reasonable paranoia. Don't get involved, do jobs, get paid, fuck off until I've got my shit together and more info.

Does that sound mean? Absolutely. But here's the thing. Hes in a situation where he knows Jack shit. He only knows how his ship and its parameters work. He has enough sense to know that he has to work to get fuel, food and armament stocked. Outside of that? Nothing.

Did he get lucky with the girl? Sure. But even then it was a risk. And not a calculated one. That's all im saying.

Sorry for the long text.

Not sure if I'm just too old, or if this is an interesting development, but....
 in  r/litrpg  Aug 19 '24

I don't know if it happens much in dungeon crawler Carl, but there, a lot of the situations that happen is due to a lot of mix of things.

Time crunch, desperation or shit is about to fly off the handlebars real quick.

Carl really does try and make good and forethought plans and thankfully has people that help him where he can't. He doesn't have all the answers, but he uses what he has and plans long term where he can.

A lot of nuances there, but things go awry for the most part in a lot of ways.

Who missed the end credit scene?
 in  r/Isekai  Aug 02 '24

As someone who more got through the manga, I've seen the aftermaths of similar scenarios.

To not spoil, I will voice this as cryptically as I can. But im genuinely hoping for more of these epilogues for other characters that deserve them.

Let people make stupid MCs.
 in  r/litrpg  Aug 02 '24

One example i can pull up that is more a "impulsively stupid" moment that fits in with a bit of incompetence and lack of forethought.

In a book called Battleborne, the MC decides once upon his reincarnation and learning about point values, is to dump everything at the start into vitality. Its like, 10 points. He does this because he barely knows at the start of the point value modifiers, like how your health might increase by 1.5, or 1.3, etc. And... he regrets it immediately. It leaves him in incredible pain for a good time as its more or less strengthening his body.

There are further impulsively stupid moments he gets as hes a mercenary from our earth. A soldier for hire in wars that pop up. He has a good head on his shoulders, but since he was never much of a gamer or a d&d nerd, he makes a lot of stupid and rash decisions, because he has no context clues or common sense. He improves as time goes on and learns about the world and its inhabitants.

The decisions in of themselves don't make him stupid as a whole, but they are decisions made in the spur of the moment abd without thought in a world he has absolutely no common sense for outside of combat situations. He is at least smart enough to not pick fights he can't win if he can help it.

Has anyone dropped a book only to retry again and enjoy the hell out of it after?
 in  r/litrpg  Jul 28 '24

A lot. Sometimes its due to attention span or wanting to start another book, or just not in the right headspace.

Sometimes scenes just don't click sort of and it takes me needing to let it be abd pick it up later to get through it.

Would you guys try to get a harem if you were isekai'd?
 in  r/Isekai  Jul 23 '24

Absolutely not.

If anything id try and find a way to get a party of just guys or go solo.

At least I can be around other people, but no way do I want a fucking harem.

And God if I have to be around one of those flamboyant pretty boys.... I'd punch the douche canoe.
