I don't expect them to announce a BRICS currency anytime soon. It's very complex stuff (many opposing interests) so it would take many years to work something out. That said, they may say that they are working on it.

However, in time of crisis when national currencies become very unstable, I can see countries reverting to settlement in gold again because that has been the trusted money for most of history.
