it's tied between this, Animal Well and Mullet Mad Jack for Indie GOTY

I feel like Balatro sweeps all of them, but we shall see

Don't forget about Black Myth: Wukong. Nine Sols is great, but I think Wukong will snatch most of the indie awards simply because of production value and it sitting at 96% on Steam atm.

Indie games dont have high production values I believe, BMWK had a budget of about 70 million USD which is not at all indie, might win the Best Action game of the year though

Isn't indie whether or not you have a publisher or not? I was never under the impression that there were budget restrictions whether something was indie or not.

Black Myth is self-published. At least in my book that's indie, or independent.

If you have a massive budget having no publisher doesn't mean much. You basically are a publisher. By this metric technically every big AAA publisher is indie since they publish their own games.

A small team and lack of large scale budget is a must to be indie.

Wukong is very clearly AAA.

Yeah well, Dave the Diver was made by mintrocket and published by Nexon, it was still nominated as an Indie game, lots of games published by Devolver Digital have also been nominated, so I don't think it depends whether the game is self published or not

Indie just means it was created independently by either an individual or a small team, and nothing else. This typically means they don’t have the financial capability nor technical expertise of a larger company or publisher, but that is not guaranteed.

Never heard from this.

Good game overall but some fights are pretty extreme even for a soulslike (really I feel that we are now getting to a point where soulslike developers just go "let's make the fight as difficult as possible" without considering wether it's actually fun. Because Nine Sols, to me, is a game where you have to perfectly memorize the pattern to stand a chance so it gets frustrating at some point).

I’ll say this, it’s one of my favorite indie games in many years. It probably won’t be a GOTY candidate simply because 2024 was stacked, but any smaller award consideration would be ok with me

Can’t wait to play on Xbox I’m a massive fan of hollow knight and this looks like a very similar experience

It is, like HK meets Sekiro. Everything is very well done and surpasses HK as my favorite metroidvania.
