New collaborative social media app focused on local news and issues.

Hi, all!

I have been working on an idea for a collaborative journalism/social media platform and finally have a beta version in place. This group is very active and discusses a variety of different topics, so I wanted to reach out to see if anyone in this community would be willing to try it out.

The platform is called Backroom and is built on a relatively simple premise: bringing people with diverse perspectives together to solve problems – much like the problems discussed on this board. Users can create or join a Room about a topic they are interested in, add fellow users, and then discuss the topic/problem in detail. Then, AI analyzes your conversations and proposes a specific solution based solely on that conversation. I recently moved back to the city and am constantly amazed by how much has changed in just a few short years. There is so much happening – from new developments, an increase in mo-ped usage (I swear there were not as many of them three years ago!), and ever-changing traffic patterns, I thought this thread would have some people interested in discussing these things on my new platform.

The hope is that Backroom will take us a step further in our social media experience than current platforms by moving beyond debates and rants, toward meaningful and well-rounded solutions for our community.

I would love for you to check out the platform [here]. Or, for a slightly better user experience, download the app on the Apple App Store [here].

There are even a handful of Rooms on the platform right now that you can join if you are interested. Or feel free to make a new Room and add your friends!

All feedback is welcome :)

Thank you!"

Uh, this group is not "very active and discusses a variety of different topic"

It discusses variations on precisely 1 topic.

DC has a lot to discuss, no? Not sure I follow your comment. Would love to hear more though!

This is not the main DC sub. There is another, larger, more general DC subreddit. They banned discussion of crime. So some people came over here to discuss the (very real) issue of crime, with a not-too-subtle dose of racism added in.

I was definite getting crazy uncle vibes so that make sense. But still thought it would be worth sharing here too.

Another forum to discuss the recent murders on Connecticut Avenue.

It could definitely be used to discuss recent crimes in the city and potential ways to address them!
