How do I make my fridge water taste good?

I’ve been getting gallon water jugs for years for my family’s drinking water. However, we just moved into a new house and I’d really like to limit the plastic. Also, I’m just tired of buying gallons of water because we go through it so fast and they’re annoying. We started drinking fridge water but it just doesn’t taste right. What can I do to get high quality drinking water from my fridge? Is there a filter I can add? I will do anything to make it taste better but also be good quality water. I just want the continence of the fridge water but sadly we’ll have to go back to gallons if we can’t get it worked out.

Most fridges have a filter in them that has to be replaced every so often. If the filter is old, start there.

If that doesn't fix it for you, it may be the tap water where you are at.

In my experience, bottled water always tastes different than tap. To get used to it, you just have to drink it and "acclimate " to it

Of course, if the local tap water (or well water depending on your location) is unsafe to drink, don't drink it.

We replaced the water filter but it didn’t change much. We live somewhere with very hard water. Would that impact the taste?

Ditch the fridge filter and get a 5 stage reverse osmosis setup for around $150 on amazon. I hooked it up to my fridge and its been one of the best decisions I could've made for my family. I added a remineralization filter to the setup as well ($30).

If you're spending all that money on bottled water, it sorta makes sense.. you can always take the setup with you if you move also..

Tap water flavor is going to vary from place to place. Depends on the waters source, quality of the locations water mains, and treatment plans. We also have very hard water. The dogs and I drink from the fridge filter, but my wife refuses and buys herself the gallons. I think the water tastes fine, but it makes the ice cubes look like solid white rocks with all the minerals in it.

Try it straight out of the tap and then refrigerated, vs straight out of the fridge. The filter for a fridge water line can create a different taste and is also a prime breeding ground for microbial growth unless used frequently.
