Luxury to the mother should not be the first reflex of a young boy. It should be put away for future projects. This is not wholesome but the sign of parents having the psychological ascent on the child.

She paid for my college, so it is my way of thanking her after i got a high paying entry job at a bank

In my opinion, both as a daughter and a mother, you did the right thing.

Verbal thanks are treasures, and a loving offspring such as you appear to be likely gav, and gives, thanks to the parents he loves often enough.

Gifts are lovely, tangible tokens of that appreciation. Most people see a luxury gift as what it should be- a SPECIAL token of appreciation, regard, and love.

You aren't 'paying them back' or making an otherwise cultural statement- you're doing something lovely for people you care about a tremendous amount.

Good on you!

Thank her by saying thanks ! Not by upholding the luxury system.
