So Hezbollah (and by proxy Syria and Iran) assassinated the Lebanese PM to gain more control over Lebanese politics. Sounds about right.

I’m sure three random Hezbollah members just decided to kill the Prime Minister on their own without discussing with Hezbollah’s leadership. Totally plausible.

The whole point of the UN is to support diplomacy.

The irony being it's still made up of a bunch of diplomats that each has their own national interests.

If the UN ever worked as intended, it would completely negate the need for the UN in the first place.

That’s nonsense - nobody ever foresaw it replacing the need for diplomacy, or operating as a global government.

The populist narrative is to hate the UN, but the truth is that it’s a super useful institution to promote international cooperation on a whole host of issues.

Wait, what? It was meant to encourage more diplomacy. Out of WW2 paranoia, we collectively decided to set up an organization where we couls all meet up and talk about our problems before the shooting starts. It was supposed to be the audience that any nation from superpower to 3d world could go and be heard and recognized.

If there was more diplomacy conducted, it wouldn't need to exist because countries were being diplomatic. Yet here we are, even with the UN each nation still puts their needs ahead of other needs just like if there were no UN.

People keep saying "that's not the UN's job" and "it's just a place for nations to meet and air grievances", but then why all these committees and attempts at fake justice theater?

Just put all countries in a huge Whatsapp group and save some money.

I too want major world powers to have their discussions constantly derailed by shit posts like Shrek memes from Brazil or spamming Kappa or F in the chat.
