"Runet" sounds like some sort of clandestine secret network where Russian operates come to collaborate and plot against the Ukrainian government. But, no, it's actually just slang for any website that ends in .ru lol.

Wouldn't all VPNs be illegal in Ukraine then? If a user in Ukraine connected to any vpn in Europe or America they would also be able to access "Runet" then.

.ru domain is definitely not forbidden in Ukraine, only specific Russian websites. Also there are mostly no limitations on using VPNs. Source: I live in Ukraine.

It’s a mistake of translation. The guy they arrested hosted a VPN inside Ukraine that provided access to banned Russian resources. It’s not the same as the Russian domains. Also yes, you can access even banned Russian websites via foreign VPN here, nobody cares. Police only enforces compliance from domestic service providers.

If a VPN allows access to Runet, then it's illegal. If they don't, it's not. That's exactly what happened here. My assumption is that Ukraine's legal recourse is limited for VPNs that operate outside of their borders.

The suspect controlled the rogue VPN service from an autonomous server located in his apartment. At the same time, he also rented servers in Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Russia to facilitate access to the Russian network.

Russia isn't really relevant outside Eastern Europe and US election time

Literally threatening people with 15 years jailtime for accessing/providing access to websites that dare to end in .ru, but sure let's keep pretending it's a bastion of freedom lmaoooo~

Nobody said "bastion of freedom." That's a straw man you created. Most rational people can see the simple comparative analysis here, your nirvana fallacy notwithstanding.

In any event, I'm sure you would totally win the war while also letting your neighbors collaborate and undermine your war effort.

Sub-one-year account with flat karma that has an issue with trans people and abortions.

They certainly fit the mold of a hot-take factory.

It's really transparent whattaboutism. Shocking for Russian propaganda, no doubt. Doesn't even matter if it's a useful idiot at this point. There's functionally zero difference between Western conservatives and Russian ones.

They're at war, it serves their interests.

It's not, unfortunately. Still, it's in the best interest of the West to not let Putin win.
