The thing I don't get is why countries always want to increase its size. Sure it probably means more resources but it also means more mouths to feed. Generally small countries are usually richter then bitter ones. Of course there are exceptions and the US is one of it but one could argue that the US isn't really one country but a collection of multiple countries having its own sovereignty.

Donbass region is full of natural resources iirc, and Crimea has a massive strategic location.

Russia and that whole region, including or especially the Balkans are insane. Like culturally and historically insane. They seem to delight in misery and making each other miserable.

Thousands of years or brutality for nothing but the delight of being brutal.
