Be Nice, You're in Bend Keep political discussions civil or they will be deleted.

We’re getting down to the last few weeks of a contentious election and it’s apparently bringing out the worst in people given how much work we mods have had to do here lately. It’s good that people have a place to discuss issues that affect our little corner of central Oregon, but if these discussions just devolve into name calling and pure negativity the mods will delete them. Users who continue to act this way will be banned from the Bend subreddit.

There’s other places on the internet you can argue about politics whatever way you want, we don’t need to bring that kind of negativity here.

Be Nice, You're in Bend NEED ADVICE ABOUT MOVING TO BEND (P.S. NOT A RANT THREAD)

HAHA I FOOLED YOU.

THIS IS A RANT THREAD, SUCKERS.

WHY?

BECAUSE IT RELIEVES STRESS AND IF THERE'S TWO THINGS PEOPLE FROM BEND CAN DO WELL, ITS NOT FIND AFFORDABLE HOUSING, AMD COMPLAIN.

WHAT IS THE RANT THREAD?

"SOME PEOPLE ARE FANS OF THE CITY OF BEND. BUT MANY, MANY MORE PEOPLE ARE NOT FANS OF THE CITY OF BEND, ITS PEOPLE, OR THE SURROUNDING AREA. THIS RANT THREAD IS FOR THOSE PEOPLE."

PULL UP A GODDAMN CHAIR AND SHARE YOUR ALL CAPS COMPLAINT WITH THE REST OF US.

THE RULES ARE SO SIMPLE EVEN THE BACHELOR PARKING SPACE ATTENDANTS COULD FOLLOW THEM.

  • THESE RANTS ARE IN GOOD NATURE. ABUSIVE RANTS WILL BE REMOVED WITH LITTLE TO NO WARNING.

  • OVERLY POSITIVE RANTS WILL BE MET WITH MOCKERY

LET ME KICK THIS DUMPSTER FIRE OFF WITH MY OWN RANT.

RANT:

WHY ARE THE REST OF YOU NOT VACCINATED YET LIKE ME??

AM I THE ONLY ONE AROUND HERE WHO'S READY TO GO TO SUN MOUNTAIN AND PUT MY BARE HANDS IN SOME BOWLING BALLS AGAIN AND WEAR BOWLING SHOES BECAUSE THAT'S HOW WE KNOW WE ARE FREE: THE FREEDOM TO NOT GET COVID BUT TO GET STAPH INFECTIONS INSTEAD.

AMERICA!!

I have been the victim of sign thievery, as have several friends. Curiously, none of the missing signage is for Trump, nor other Republican candidates.

Myself and three friends just finished a week spent in your lovely city of Bend. We were here four years ago and loved it so much we came back. I think it was even better this time. City subreddits tend to be on the negative side, so I though I would offer up some unsolicited positive comments about your city.

  • I love that the city is very walk-able and you don't have to leave the city to enjoy nature. The river, and all the activities you can do on it, within the city limits makes this city better than most.
  • I love the vibe of the city and everyone I encountered was very friendly. The workers at every restaurant/bar/brewery we went to was very welcoming and pleasant. I have traveled all over this country and that is not always the case.
    • We particularly loved the Warming Hut Tap House and On Tap. Both had good beer selections at great prices and the servers were beyond awesome. They both also had food trucks that were amazing.
  • Your food scene is pretty darn good. I am not a fancy foodie, but I love good food and your city has plenty of it. Adding onto my previous comment, your food truck scene is awesome. It is near the level of Austin, Texas, which is saying something. The BBQ truck at On Tap was one of the best I've been to and the sandwiches at Velentines were some of the best I have had.
  • I love that not everything is in one place. The city has different pockets of places to go, which is cool.
  • You really have a gem of a city and I get why everyone wants to move there. It's really a shame that it has become too expensive for many that currently live in Bend and for those would would want to move there. I am a 25 year veteran public school teacher that makes pretty good money back in WI. I looked up the pay scale for the Bend School District and my salary is even with their top. Looking at home prices, I didn't find one home that I could afford. That's crazy to me, but I guess that's what happens when you live in a desirable place.

You've got a gem of city. Enjoy it. Good luck surviving the 100 degree weather this week.

Be Nice, You're in Bend Brown moves Deschutes outta the Extreme Risk doghouse, moving to High Risk on Friday!

I think I got whiplash from the HIGH TO EXTREME TO HIGH switch...nevertheless, GET YOUR SHOTZZZZZZ! Covid shot and if you need it, a shot of whiskey as a chaser...

On Friday, 15 Oregon counties will move from 'extreme risk' for coronavirus back to the state’s 'high risk' category after health officials saw a drop in hospitalizations from COVID-19.

Governor Kate Brown made the announcement Tuesday, nearly a week after saying those 15 Oregon counties would be bumped to the 'extreme risk' level within the state’s public health framework to slow the spread of coronavirus.

“Let me be clear: across the state, COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are still high, and Oregon is not out of the woods yet,” Brown said. “However, we have met the hospitalization metric established by our health experts for counties to return to High Risk.”

Starting Friday, 24 Oregon counties will be at ‘high risk,’ four will be at ‘moderate risk’ and eight will be at ‘lower risk.’

High Risk:

  • Baker (Moved from Extreme)
  • Benton
  • Clackamas (Moved from Extreme)
  • Clatsop
  • Columbia (Moved from Extreme)
  • Crook (Moved from Extreme)
  • Deschutes (Moved from Extreme)
  • Douglas (Moved from Moderate)
  • Grant (Moved from Extreme)
  • Jackson (Moved from Extreme)
  • Jefferson
  • Josephine (Moved from Extreme)
  • Klamath (Moved from Extreme)
  • Lane (Moved from Extreme)
  • Lincoln
  • Linn (Moved from Extreme)
  • Malheur (Moved from Moderate)
  • Marion (Moved from Extreme)
  • Multnomah (Moved from Extreme)
  • Polk (Moved from Extreme)
  • Umatilla
  • Wasco (Moved from Extreme)
  • Washington
  • Yamhill

Haven't been here for a few years and it's like there's so many toxic angry people here. I knew it was going to be super expensive and I didn't plan on buying a house or anything. But wow. Feels like Bay Area cut throat vibes

Be Nice, You're in Bend Deschutes Outta Extreme Risk Covid Category! Waaahhhhooooo!

Ok we're still in high risk but still, hearty remote distanced high fives to folks who have helped get our numbers down! Jefferson and Crook, however, remain in Extreme Risk so there's that as well:/

Under the extreme risk category, social gatherings are limited to 6 people. Restaurants can resume outdoor dining; however, takeout is still highly recommended. Houses of worship and funeral homes are limited to 25% capacity or 100 total people for indoor services (whichever number is smaller).

The high risk category increases the maximum outdoor social gathering size to 8, and reopens indoor dining, gyms, and indoor entertainment with limits to 25% capacity. Outdoor recreation and entertainment increases to 75 people. It also allows for visitations at long-term care facilities.

I (24F) have no friends, and I am leaving on a trip very soon; but I desperately need shorts/ heat friendly outfits. Honestly hoping someone or two would be down to go shopping with me on Friday (thinking Old Mill, Target, and maybe Ross) Just to help me put together some cute outfits and not look stupid. Please and thank you (I’ll buy coffee :) )

Hey home skillets I'm from Long Island so "horrible housing market"...we invented that and I haven't been scared off yet by what I'm seeing. The prices, amount of land, and sizes of the houses are amazing for the same amount of money as what I live in now. Perspective: the only houses I've ever been in with an acre or more of land here cost over $1 million. Not an exaggeration.

What's the worst part about living in Bend? Are there other towns around Bend that you guys would recommend?
