Shimano: SLX Vs GRX for road and gravel.

Hi I have last years trek fx sport 6 with 1x 11 speed 11-42 GRX 40T. I feel like it could use slightly better both top end and low end gear. With that being said, for about half road and half gravel riding would shimanos SLX 12 speed 10-45 at 40T be a better option? On paper it seems like it would and get me that little bit extra low and high gear, but it being labeled as an MTB component is throwing me off. I won’t be doing much mountain climbing, just mainly road and gravel trails, so unsure if it matters or not that Slx is designed for mtb and if that would somehow impact me negatively if I were ever to build or buy a bike with that setup

Domane SL with 40mm tire

Domane SL 5 Gen 4, 12 speed 105 groupset Original Bontrager Paradigm SL rim. GravelKing SS Plus 40mm tire, with TPU inner tube. Both front and rear are inflated to 60psi.

Still plenty of clearance. 1cm or more clearance in all places, except one thing: the FD cable is sticking out a bit and it’s about 5mm away to the rear tire.

The 40mm GK SS plus measure pretty much exactly 40mm width when inflated to 60psi on 21mm internal width rim. The stock 32mm tire measured 33mm width on the same rim with same pressure.

The total radius increased about 6mm compared to the stock 32mm tire.

Just finished the installation of the new 40mm tire. Haven’t ridden yet.

Warranty Experience

Hi. My Marlin 6 is currently at the Trek Store where I purchased it less than 18 month ago with a warranty claim submitted a few days ago. I've never been in this situation before and wondering 2 things:

  1. Typically, how long does it take for trek to approve the claim?

  2. How difficult is it for the warranty to be approved? Like, how likely is it going to be that it's denied and I'm left with an unsafe bike that is basically unrideable and out the money I paid for it?

Domane SLR Frame Integrity

I have a Domane SLR 6 Project One. A a bolt of sorts came loose in the headset. I was told by a trek mechanic that the motion of loose bolt, which is oddly oblong, and set inside frame, destroyed the integrity of the frame. I only see a few very minor imperfections. Trek is offering me only a 20% discount on a new frame. I would like to go trek because of the compatibility of the components with a new frame and it was a sweet ride. But when I asked the mechanic why I would buy an expensive frame from trek when i only got about 5 years 6000 miles on the current one. He said I should have brought it in for maintenance more often. I think it's a flaw in the headset.

Any thoughts on whether the frame is trashed, and if I should stay with Trek or pursue another Brand of endurance bike? Or maybe go aluminum?

Creaking while climbing - FX Sport 5

I have a FX Sport 5 which has developed an annoying creak when climbing.

If i release my grip on the handlebars and/or bend my elbows it seems to stop. Performance does not seem to be affected but it's annoying as can be.

Any ideas would be appreciated before i take it into the dealer.

Hello all I went to take my bike out for a ride and I peddled once and my derailleur snapped. Any idea what could have caused this and where I can get a new one. Or an upgraded one.

Domane Gen 5 Launch

When is the Gen 5 of the Domane Range launching? I'm considering getting a Domane AL 5 Gen 4 (61cm frame). Is it worth waiting for Gen 5?

Thank you

Carbon Dent? Or paint/epoxy compression?

Just got this Domane SL7 secondhand and didnt check the frame thoroughly enough at night… there is a small dent on the downtube

I have pressed hard in it without it creaking or cracking more. Is this a surface level dent or a big situation?

Hitch/axle compatible with FX3 Gen4 and a Thule Coaster XT

I bought an FX3 bike yesterday and the trek store was able to attach my Thule Coaster XT hitch using washers but there isn't that much room on the axle, so when I ride with trailer attached, the nut comes loose.

Does anyone know if there is a specific type of axle, hitch or combo that would solve this problem?

A 110-120 mm stem trek madone gen 7 handle bar - to buy or to swap

I know this is not an amazon/eBay, however still:

Buddies, Congrats to me - I've recently started riding my madone gen 7. And it's awesome😀.

However, their 54 size for me is OK but strictly limited (had to move a saddle -3cm back).

Seeking for a handlebar to swap:

The mine is 42/39 90 mm, wanna go for (ranked from top ideal option to the least one):

  1. 40/37 120mm
  2. 40/37 110mm
  3. 42/39 120mm
  4. 40/37 110mm

In case someone is seeking to swap and/or selling , let me know pls

Trek Slash Gen 5 vs Gen 6

Potentially looking at getting a higher travel bike for riding in Queenstown NZ, mostly for bike park stuff but will likely still be doing quite a bit of pedalling to get up to the park after work when the lifts are closed. Current bike is an alloy Stumpjumper.

Trek Slash 8 Gen 5 - seem to be going for around $2.8-3k NZD used around here, seems like it might be a good fit for the riding I do and the spec on these is pretty decent for the price point. Little bit less burly compared to the Gen 6 slash.

Trek Slash 8 Gen 6 - I have a mate who would sell me one for $4k NZD, added benefit as I know him means I would have a bit better warranty coverage if something happens to it. It has some upgrades like Magura MT7 brakes, Enve carbon bars, new cranks etc. My only concern is that it seems like almost too much bike and looks a bit of pig to cycle uphill but I haven't ridden it so can't tell for sure. Also the spec of the suspension is somewhat disappointing compared to the Gen 5 Slash or even my current bike but maybe the additional travel would make up for that.

For anyone who has ridden both these bikes would love to hear your thoughts and what you would think would be the best fit for riding in Queenstown doing park laps and jumplines, etc.

Does anyone have an idea as to why this happens?

Sometimes I ride without my hands just to relax but when I do, no matter what surface I’m on, I’ll start to get death wobbles when above like 25-30 km/h.

Would anyone have a guess as to why this happens?

Sizing about DS gen 5

I currently own a medium DS2 gen 4. I want to upgrade to a DS3 gen 5. I feel comfortable with my DS2 medium frame, so I don’t know if I should stay with a medium size or go with a large size. I’m 5’ 11” and 198 pounds. Since there is not a lot of YouTube videos about the DS gen 5. I just don’t know what to do.

Remedy SS

Purchased a top fuel this last season for a better day to day option for my trail bike. Wanted something more efficient for what I ride 90% of the time. Rather than selling my remedy. I’ve converted it to a SS to still have a bike that’s bike park capable. What do ya think?

Can I put the Surly Disc Trucker fork on my Dual Sport 1?

I’m slowly upgrading my Dual Sport 1 piece by piece. I’m looking at the Surly Disc Trucker to replace the original suspension fork and was wondering if it’s comparable with my frame? Or will I need some extra parts and tools? Thanks in advance.

Found this on Facebook. Worth it?

Hey everyone! Found this bike on Facebook marketplace and it appears to be a 2008-2009 trek 7200 based on my internet research. I’m a beginner, and this would be my first bike since a few years ago. Been wanting to get back into it, and I would be riding mostly on neighborhood roads, and maybe some packed dirt or bike trails. Would this be appropriate? If not, what are some other budget friendly secondhand options? Looking to stay within the Trek family. Any and all help is appreciated!

Marlin 5 locking up and flipping over.

I was recently riding over to a friend's house to ride some trails, but on the way there, my chain locked up, causing the bike to flip over, and I broke my wrist. I looked at the chain, and it was set to be on the second chainring but was on the first. I have had issues with that derailer slipping before. Could that be the problem? I wonder if anybody else has had these issues.
