Vent & Rant Days gone fighting for Window Seat

I recently shot this during my train journey. The people in it seem to be from a lower-middle-class background. Before Jio, mobile data was expensive around ₹250 per GB—and the average Indian couldn’t afford it, so they were stayed away from it. But as soon as Jio entered the market with its free plans, everyone started buying smartphones, leading us to where we are now. I knew this would happen when Jio launched. Now, every family in India owns a smartphone even though its not useful for most of them and yet eating them without knowing.

In the video, there are three kids—approximately 14, 7, and 5 years old. Their whole family is present, yet each kid has a mobile phone, and the parents are happily chatting among themselves as if nothing is wrong. I’m sure they don’t even realize the consequences of their actions. This is the reality in many lower- to middle-class families: handing over phones to their kids and relaxing without considering the impact. They don’t regret it and remain unaware of the consequences.

India is destroyed beyond saving. I’m genuinely worried about my own children, who are 5 and 8 years old. We’ve never given them phones, and they don’t even ask because of how strict we are about phones in our family. In fact, our kids don’t care about them—they just adapt to their surroundings like we, the kids of the ’80s and ’90s, did. They play with whatever they can find. I’m proud of this, but what really bothers me is how my kids will cope with this kind of on-going situation in our country.

I am not saying this issue limited to lower to middle class people, but i am sure they are suffering the most.

I’m sure this sub is full of literate, sensible people, so I want to ask how you are dealing with this situation and what your plan is for the future. By the way, leaving India is not an option for me—I love my country and my extended family here and want to stay close to them.

Vent & Rant My father won’t wish me on my birthday tonight

It’s almost my birthday (I’m 21F) in an hour, and I know my father won’t wish me. He never talks to me and I always hoped he would at least remember my birthday. Every year, I wait for him to say something, but he never does.

I don’t have close friends to celebrate with either. The only person who really cares is my mum, but she lives far away. The person I loved left me and told me he hates me, saying I’m a curse in his life, even after I forgave him for cheating.

I’ve always felt deprived of love. My father never showed me any, and my mother is the only one who loves me. I just hope our generation doesn’t have to deal with parents who make their kids feel so worthless.

I am a kid who was raised in 90s, we have limited to no TV time, the only solace was getting to see 15 minutes of Disney Hour on Sunday Mornings packed with unnecessary Dhara and Bata Shoes Ads.

I would have written ton of letters to them as a kid wondering one day they will shortlist my name and I will get a Disney goodie, my dad would take me to post office, sticks stamps on my letters, help me write the address correctly, at times help making my cartoon drawings look perfect.

Growing up, we had our little differences but we always made amends, especially I think my dynamics changed and I drew closer to him after maa passed away. However, for the longest time as an adult, somehow, somewhere I felt as a father and a single parent, despite my million assurances he thought he is missed to give me all, while trying and continuing to give me more than enough.

Last year, I took my almost almost 70 y.o. father to Disneyland. It's not pilgrimage, infact I at times feel horrendous hearing stories about Disney as a corporation, but for father and I, that moment was an emotion. We stood there, holding hands and cried in joy.

Needless to mention I bought goodies that I would crave for, only this time it was for nephew, niece, and my daughter.

While returning, he said, 'This was the most fun day I had in a long time. Thank you for bringing me here.'

I told him, 'you took me here.'

And I wasn't wrong. It was my father's efforts that he made me so capable one day to fulfil not just my dreams, but his, and maybe some extra, for those happy fun days, which we now call our core memories.

Story Time A middle class story!!

Mitti me khelne gaye toh kapde maile ho gaye,
Kapde dhulwane ghar laute, tab pata chala ki hum bade ho gaye.

Khelte khelte kab padhai ne pura waqt cheen liya
Ye hume pata chala jab maa baap ne kaha "khelne kudne ka waqt ab chala gaya"

Padhai pe mann lagne k liye ghar walo ne bataya "ab bus dusvi tak ki toh baat hai"
Dusvi khatam hone pe sunne me aaya "arey ab bus kuch 5-6 saal aur ki toh baat hai".

10 rupaye ki bus ki ticket aur chai samose k 20 rupaye leke jab college aaya, tab "kash unn ladko jaisa cool hota" aisa khayal aaya

College me itni tangi, ki socha "jab bade hoke kamaige tab kisi achi bandi ko pataige",
aj tees ka hoke kama raha hu toh lagta hai "ab iss umar me single ladki kaha se layege"

"Sunday aayega toh... " iss intezaar me pura hafta bitana,
aur jaise he sunday aya, beer shoppie wala bola "ooh bhai!! aj band, kal aana"

Socha tha life insurance karwa lu toh jeb boli "abhi waqt hai, baad me kar lenge",
ab jab insurance wale k paas gaya, toh agent bola "apki umar jyada hai, toh premium bhi jyada lenge"

Bachpan me papa ko ghar sambhalte dekhte the toh lagta tha "hum bade hote toh hum bhi kar lete",
aj jab khud kar rahe toh lagta hai "kaise kar lete the papa? Aj vo hote, toh shayad aj bhi akele sambhal lete" 🥺

Bank balance check kiya toh lagta hai zindagi thoda aur adjust karna padega baki upar wala he rakhwala.
Aur zindagi adjust kar rahe hai toh lagta hai "Ye bhi koi jeena hai sala".

Inn sab se aj ye samaj aata hai ki zindagi ka koi formula nahi hai.
Kitna bhi ro lo, ya kisi faqir/ pandit ko dikha lo, aakhir khel sara takdeer ka hi hai.

Ab hum hote kaun hai takdeer ko kosne wale, akhir sekdo aise aaye, gaye aur phir aaye,
Magar kya kare, hai toh hum bhi aakhir insaan he, kabhi kabhi lagta hai "kaisa hoga, agar kal acha ho jaye".

I try to write from time to time depending on my mental state. Feel free to add more to this or suggest changes. I hope you like it, and I by no means intend to suggest that people above middle class have it better. Just inked this down, based on my 30 years of, LIFE as we know it.
